Librarian. University of Guelph. Not terrific but competent.

I very much felt this, voting in Guelph, which no longer has a "traditional" newspaper, and which isn't the home base of any of the CBC radio stations. You have to dig harder to find out more about your candidates and be more inherently invested in the electoral process.

I think low turnout in municipal elections is pretty understandable considering the comparative lack of media attention and the relative lack of power and sovereignty that municipal governments are afford.

In which I lay out why Minister Quinn's decision to suspend all private institutions from OSAP is a desperate effort to distract attention from the fact that it is now clear that he lied about the reasons for the February OSAP cuts (and he knew he was lying). Those cuts need to be reversed. Now.

Canada is refusing to issue ISBNs to books primarily generated with AI. This illustrates both the urgency of the problem of the growing flood of slop books, and also the toothlessness of addressing it on the honor system without there also being consequences for lying

This is now the middle of a city-region of 7.5 million. In any reasonable planning scenario, this pocket of houses would be getting high-density redevelopment to match what's happening 400m away. (The current compromise, allowing high-end townhouses, will lock in lowrise for generations.)

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.

For the first time in over 30 years, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Northern cod stock has been deemed “healthy” by Ottawa. www.canadianaffairs.news/2026/09/05/i...

Every few months the kids & I go ride various trains in Toronto. Today’s adventure was riding line 6 and not going to lie it’s not great. The Citadus trains aren’t as nice as the Flexities on other lines and I’m fairly certain we hit every red light. IMO the above ground bits of line 5 work better.
