I will add pressure to this by saying that any company that claims to not hold onto your personal data after verifying you? They're lying. Ive been nitro free since the first time they tried this, voice how you feel with your wallet people. Make them really feel that squeeze.

Call your reps. Even if the results are not optimal, it will make you feel better. Be sure to reference those acts as "child surveillance acts" it sends a stronger message imo.
Other good news: the senates SCREEN act failed the vote because not enough Senators were voting. All the dems voted present present voted to dodge accountability for supporting it not realizing that that just killed the bill.. As for KOSA.. They probably started a "version war"
Now is not the time to back down. We need an overwhelm of calls going in to lawmakers this week. Call and call again tomorrow! 📲 www.badinternetbills.com
To be clear, the Senate version of KOSA passed today is completely different than the House version that passed earlier this year, making it very unlikely to become law. The Senate knows this yet they are committing to the farce of acting on kids safety.
Oh yeah, IIRC, when the KIDS Act passed in the House, Blackburn and Blumlethal said it was DOA if it comes to the Senate committee. Considering it carries the House version of KOSA plus the SCREEN Act, it's probably not leaving committee in the Senate.
One thing to keep in mind however is that all this takes time and time is something this Congress is running out of because there's two recesses coming up (the August recess starts next week and will last until the second week of September) before the term ends mid-December.
I remember hearing this was ONLY in regards to Senate KOSA and the SCREEN Act. Unfortunately, the Senate KOSA did pass committee, so it'll be off to the Senate floor... in whoever knows how many weeks/months. And if Senate KOSA does pass the Senate, it has to go through the process again in House.
I don’t see KOSA and KIDS getting much further for the same reason KOSA died in ‘24. They just won’t agree on duty of care. Not helping that they have effectively less than 30 days left to get it done in the session.
SOME GOOD NEWS! continue to contact your reps re: KOSA and the KIDS Act, but also give yourself a pat on the back if you called! Your voice mattered!
SCREEN Act, which would have required mandatory age-verification for sites (like this) that allow "material harmful to minors" failed to pass out of committee after thousands and thousands of people called their Senators. More work ahead!
Whew, the new one is dead and the old one that never passes the Senate is on its way to die there again. Call your senators anyway. It's easy takes like ten minutes.
While the SCREEN Act failed in the committee, KOSA did move forward. Contact your senators immediately demanding it be opposed, and keep the pressure up until it comes to a vote in the Senate
The Senate Commerce Committee just passed KOSA out of committee with zero debate & failed to move the SCREEN Act. punchbowl.news/article/tech...
Keep scrambling them, please keep calling your reps with me 🙏
The KIDS Act is facing serious headwinds in the Senate, with Marsha Blackburn getting pushback from both Cruz and the White House on what should be in the bill, and what can pass. — via @benbrodydc.bsky.social. Cruz says he'll vote for it, but doesn't believe it has the votes.
If anyone is getting smacked with this - just use deer.social or another alternate client. Bsky is just an AT Protocol Client, and your Bsky account is an AT Protocol account - you can use your same Bsky account thru another AT Protocol Client, no migration or loss necessary. Could not be easier.

WHA OH!!! Anyway use deer.social
I was about to say that the govt would be surprised how fast a big chunk of us would just say "ok fine then I'm not doing it" and drop all social media out of spite. But tbh that's probably what they want and we should fight so it doesn't come to that vs just handing that outcome to them.
This isn't the end. House KOSA doesn't have Duty of Care which the Senate is hellbent on wanting to be put it, so the tides are in our favor. Still, keep calling your reps and let them know that the KIDS Act isn't popular.
Wyden fighting against ALL internet censorship combined with the Kosa folks hating it and the Senate just generally being busy means this thing’s chances are blessedly low.
“The senate doesn’t like it” is kind of an understatement. The asshole main sponsors of Senate KOSA, Blackburn and Blumenthal fucking HATE the kids act for its lack of Duty of Care. It’s seemingly non-negotiable for them. So this bill is (at best) going to get pushed by Cruz and then held forever.
The KIDS Act [containing KOSA] has passed the House This sucks, but its not the end. It still has to pass through the Senate committee and then be voted on by the Senate itself Please continue contactimg your Senators and demanding they oppose the KIDS Act & KOSA www.congress.gov/members/find...
If you can't get on the phone to your Senator, send them an email. I'd also recommend following @fightforthefuture.org and @eff.org, which have really led on this issue.
Stop KOSA
KOSA is a censorship bill that won’t make kids safe. Instead, it'll put all internet users at risk, especially youth. If you believe in a free and open internet, tell your lawmakers to reject #KOSA!

The House has passed KOSA. It now heads to the Senate, where this version, at least, faces an uphill battle. That said, get on the horn and call your legislators. NOW.

Call your Reps, even if they're not there right now you can leave a message, trust me, they do see those. You don't have to be eloquent, you don't have to make a good argument, this isn't debate club, just say "Vote No on this bill," and that's all you need.
‼️ Bad Internet Bills, disguised as “kids safety” bills, are moving through Congress again ‼️ It's time to get those phones in Congress ringing off the hooks again w/ one simple message: we refuse any bill that age restricts, censors & surveils the Internet. : www.politico.com/live-updates...

How to Complete Age Assurance on Discord

Well discords back to their own shenangians again, they still want to use Facial Recog, & use credit card information to identify people that are age appropriate, if this isn't overreach of some kind..goodness,just please stop discord. www.xda-developers.com/discord-begi...
Discord begins testing age verification with Google Wallet and credit cards, but face scans are still on the table
It might be enough to stem the outrage.

you should still cancel your nitro until they announce a permanent pivot; you should also contact your nation's legislators whenever the concept of forced identification policies are brought up. tell them everything you would tell a discord rep. it'll take about the time it takes to make three posts
just as a notice before this gets qrt'd all over my timeline, this is based on no new information and is simply taking this paragraph from a statement in February literally. it's worth being reminded that it's still currently going to happen but this is extremely dishonestly framed
As early as next month, Discord could enable their global age verification measures. #privacy #ageverification theprivacycloud.substack.com/p/discord-wi...
Repeating this here but, Can you please stop shooting yourself in the foot and actually ask what your users want? It is EXHAUSTING having to mount this kind of pushback every other month just to keep you from making terrible decisions.
It’s clear these changes missed the mark, so we’re rolling them back. We’ll be working on a solution that better balances the varying needs of all our users and will provide more information before we roll out additional changes.
broken clock syndrome or not, i do think it's worth at least being a little thankful for, like, that happening at all given what every other site looks like right now
