Delighted to share the results of years of work on modulating GA levels in #trees, made possible with a little help from molecular clockwork⏰ #PlantSci Biotechnological adaptation of high-yielding, gibberellin-overproducing Populus trees to seasonal growth patterns academic.oup.com/jxb/article/...

IceLab and @umeaplantsciencecentre.se interdisciplinary postdoc @gasconelsa.bsky.social presented at the 2026 Sainsbury Laboratory Symposium. Elsa is a computational biologist whose research focuses on the interplay between tissue topology and mechanical stresses during plant morphogenesis. 👏

Elsa Gascon from @umeaplantsciencecentre.se introduced at #SLS26 a novel representation of multilayered tissues based on simplicial complexes, which captures cell layers while remaining fully compatible with biomechanical modelling. Find out about Elsa's research: www.umu.se/en/staff/els...

🧵 When bacteria are stressed, RNA doesn’t always tell the whole story. New research in @pnas.org from @umeauniversitet.bsky.social shows that the relationship between mRNA and protein can weaken under stress — particularly for genes responding to osmotic stress. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

🦠 Bacterial gene expression is not a reliable proxy for protein levels, at least not under stress. Our new paper in PNAS shows how far mRNA and protein diverge, across three pathogens and 10 stress conditions. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... #Pathogen #RNA #protein #MachineLearning

What can physics tell us about how we age? On 17 October, IceLab’s Ludvig Lizana, newly installed Professor of Physics at @Umeå University, gives a 20-minute public lecture on bringing physics and cell biology together to understand biological ageing. 🕘 09:00 | In English | Open to everyone #scicomm

Thrilled to receive the Scandinavian Plant Physiology Society (@plantspps.bsky.social) Early Career Award 2026 at #SPPS2026! Deeply grateful to the Society and to everyone who has supported my research on plant cell wall integrity signalling along the way 🌱🏆

Photo of a woman with long dark wavy hair, smiling at the camera and holding an award certificate titled “SPPS Early Career Award 2026.” She wears a lavender suit and stands in a tall wall alcove above a dark green leather sofa, in a room with beige walls and two vertical wall sconces.

🎉 🔚 That's a wrap on the 2026 IceLab Lunch Pitch season! Thank you to all the speakers for bringing your research, problems, opportunities, ideas and collaborative sparks. We hope you all found a new insight, and perhaps new connections.

🧵1/ Plant physiologist Barbora Pařízková at @umeaplantsciencecentre.se had a research problem with auxin. Auxin is a key plant hormone involved in root development among other things. Because it is so essential, it is difficult to isolate the effects of individual auxin pathways experimentally. 🌱🔬
