You can tell Tokyo is a city of multitudes because on this very side street I'm standing on, there are two long lines. On one side of the street are people queueing up for what I believe is a sneaker drop. And on the other side is a line three times longer waiting for the pachinko parlor to open.

Every single time I've used a public bathroom in Tokyo this week, I have seen at least(!) one Japanese dude only wash his hands with water and then leave, some even after seeing me washing my hands like it's 2020 still, and it's beginning to make me fear ever going out in this country ever again.

You should really play the first one to get the full context and experience the intended emotional payoffs with each of the girls, not just Sakura herself, but I'm glad JAV Titles is out here reminding people of the best PC-98 game that was never made.

If I was the TGS organizers, the government, and JR East (who are selling tickets on their shopping portal, strangely), I would take the looming typhoon that's poised to hit Tokyo on Monday as a sign that a five-day gaming convention goes against the will of any number of kami, but that's just me.

I wasn't involved in that update. I actually have no idea who did that work! I learned about it at the same time as everyone else. I think that may have been handled internally by GungHo or else I reckon I would've been asked as the most senior translator in terms of series experience on this game.

This is a question I've grappled with over the years in covering 90s dating sims and character raising sims more broadly. What do I compare them to to make these games make sense? And while it's a comparison you have to be careful with making, I've found roguelikes make for a decent starting point.

I need more of you to sit down with Tokimeki Memorial in good faith and realize that when a game with a calendar is 5 hours long each run and not 80, the pressure to have a perfect first run evaporates. The RPGs you've played are not representative of their original strengths and context in Japan.

it absolutely blows how time limits and time pressure are some of the most effective tools for game design and yet gamers absolutely hate them

When translators say they hate doing MTPE because it's faster to just do it from scratch and results in better material, we're not exaggerating. If I was a proofreader and a translator handed me this, I would immediately tell the PM to fire them. No translation is genuinely better than an MT in loc.
