This is such an exciting collection and looking forward to what researchers come up with by combining sources. From the announcement video: Anthony Parisi tapes + Carolyn Rauch photographs + E3 guidebook = Location where the video/photos were taken

We are open again in the International District! Please allow us another day for getting everything set back up completely and expect some messes if you stop by today. We will be back to normal tomorrow, and all other locations are functioning as normal!

Saw a meme of GenZ baffled by how pre-internet travel worked, and realized we’ve crossed an enshittification threshold where IRL services that once seemed outdated, like travel agents, now seem luxurious: “You meet with a human expert who plans out your whole trip with you” sounds incredible now tbh

You guys are never gonna believe this, but going to a brick-and-mortar running store and getting sized by employees who know what they're doing and can recommend brands and models for you is a WAY better strategy than Googling "Nike running shoes" and buying whatever's on sale

The single biggest story in video games this month, prompting widespread concern across the community, and the ESA has no comment. Thank you @duckvalentine.bsky.social for holding them accountable for their total failure on this issue

Sony is putting an end to physical PlayStation games, and perhaps unsurprisingly, the ESA doesn't really have anything to say about it. https://kotaku.com/video-game-industry-esa-digital-ownership-2000712263

People asking how I expect this to affect our game stores, so I'll try to summarize: 1. There will always be demand for games at inclusive price points 2. This decision very much affects which things can fall into those price points, & may push more phys games into "collectible" territory (cont)

Good Evening, “video games” was a 45 year sociological study conducted by hardware development industries. We are now complete with our study. Thank you for your time.

A lot of people (accurately) point out that premium video games are cheaper today than they were 30 years ago thanks to inflation, but discussed less often is how much bigger the margins are for game companies now that sales are 80-90% (soon to be 100%) digital. No more retail or packaging costs!

I don’t want this point to be lost in the discourse. Going digital-only means inequity for people who cannot afford internet or constantly purchasing new games. Libraries provide opportunities for people to experience games they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford, and that will be lost.

My child loves going to the library and checking out a new video game every week. Going digital only eliminates libraries as a way people can access games.

The death of physical media seems like a small thing practically but in essence it represents the total dissolution of games as “objects of art” and instead reduces them purely to “intellectual property”. It’s a slow disaster but if you care about games as an art form it IS a disaster.

Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles blog.playstation.com/2026/07/01/p...

The last year has made it clear that we are losing all meaningful competition within the video game market. What incentive is there for Sony to offer a better product when their primary competitor has lost so much public confidence?

If you're curious what a non-preservationist gaming ecosystem looks like, you can look at the mobile stores, where most of the shit you remember does not exist in any form anymore.
