Today is NEC Awareness Day. At VON, we track rates of NEC every year and while rates of these outcomes have been steady, there is variation in outcomes when sorted by race. We encourage centers to use this data for quality improvement to improve the care and outcomes of infants and families. #neosky

Had a great time at the Neonatal Society meeting today. So many people were interested to hear about the induced lactation & shared lactation questions that came from the JLA priority setting partnership for LGBTQIA+ perinatal care. And so many presentations on great UK neonatal research

How much oxygen for the resuscitation of the preterm?
I like a good acronym, so my initial response to the new TORPIDO trial was very positive! TORPIDO 30/60 was a large multicentre RCT comparing initial FiO2 concentrations for resuscitation of the preterm infant (Oei JL, et al. Targeted Oxygen for Initial Resuscitation of Preterm Infants: The TORPIDO 30/60 Randomized Clinical Trial. JAMA. United States2025). The first TORPIDO study (Targeted Oxygen in the Resuscitation of Preterm Infants and their Developmental Outcomes) was a comparison in 290 infants <32 weeks GA, of 21% starting O2 concentration vs 100% starting concentration (

Thank you for your wonderful review. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I wish everyone would read it too. Especially politicians. Then all doctors, whose voices are unsettlingly quiet on the matter of our government led withdrawal of trans healthcare and how this fits with ‘do no harm’.
Absolutely delighted to see the Child Cancer Smart campaign launch today. A campaign steeped in evidence aiming to raise awareness and accelerate diagnosis for all children and young people with cancer. Huge thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make this happen.
