I'm reading an absolutely fascinating blog post that collects many different kinds of Initiative in RPGs. It's really eye opening. It shows just how hard it is to find a good answer to "who goes first" when a fight breaks out. knightattheopera.blogspot.com/2024/06/ever...

EVERY Initiative Method??

Not really. But maybe, with your help, we actually can. Let's give this a shot. Every now and then I've seen a blog post attempting to cover...

once you embrace being the #ttrpg Forever DM, the problem with being the Forever DM is finding people who actually want to play whatever wildass game you've got stuck in your craw this time

This game could be whatever you make it: A wholesome quest for community and friendship? A heroic defence against an invading army? Am escape from cryptids through spooky woods? All of the above? Join Beyond the Faer Woods and decide for yourself what kind of world awaits you! #indiettrpg

Hey there, I'm running games at @startplaying.bsky.social! Come join me in a fully improvised campaign with an easy to learn #indiettrpg. Anyone is welcome, and your first session is free! startplaying.games/adventure/cm...

I’m seeing a lot of soft takes from industry mutuals at the moment that we shouldn’t be so hard on those who use generative AI because it’s becoming harder and harder to resist. Wrong. Betraying your ethics (and your peers) because ‘everyone else is doing it’ does not suddenly make it acceptable.

ok fine! i've joined #tittyrpg despite my backlog of projects to finish. but i've had this urge all year that my art needs to be more punk, so i couldn't pass this up

Bad games are the best games because they create game designers. If 5e were perfect, there would be only one game. Instead, 5e sucks so there are 10,000 tiny indie games that suck less and that’s beautiful

There should be a game jam for games with rules written in the most diegetic ways possible. I'm talking resolution mechanics as prophecies. Rules for death as in-game cultural traditions. Combat mechanics as snippets of kingdom army training manuals.

These posts have good takeaways. One thing I think about game design is that we don't talk about design itself, at a core level, often enough; we might talk about specific mechanics or tech, but not about what you actually do. I have some blogs about it. aryxymaraki.blogspot.com/2024/01/this...

hey all, back when a bunch of us migrated to tumblr, I did a short three part series on how I personally learned #ttrpg design, with the aim of helping people unsure of how to increase their design knowledge/skill set. if that sounds like you, check this out! (& share/repost/reskeet/etc!)

spent yesterday getting a tour of what’s new in my dad’s Minecraft world. he’s done really cool worldbuilding and doesn’t even know it, so i’m dropping everything and turning it into a campaign setting

i’m not usually a big holiday person, but something shifted in the air these past few days and everything is just a bit better now??? i spent my christmas scribbling notes for a deck building ttrpg. if this energy carries through the new year, i may share some of my ideas for it here… 👀

One of the best things I ever did for myself was stop comparing my life trajectory to people who have support systems. I won’t say I never had help, but I’m just now truly understanding the difference between “assistance” and “support”.
