Like: I guess my cringe millennial thing is I do enjoy a good gif. However, I have coworkers that ALWAYS respond with GIFs in teams and they're ALWAYS from either The Office (vomit) or Arrested Development and I now *get* why gif posting is viewed as cringe.

When I was 17 I registered to vote - I registered as Socialist and my dad hit the roof. He was a republican but would leave the party years later. Anyhow I was bullied into switching to the Democratic Party and I felt like a fake ever since. Fixing that.

Honestly: between reading that NYT story about the META data center in Louisiana and how they're destroying rare books for AI training its taking everything I got to not jump in front of SEPTA.

Anyone else bothered by the new META "We're Betting on People" commercial that talks about how the future is for everyone but uses David's Bowie's song "5 Years" and the soundtrack?
Here's the thing: I'm absolutely not worried if AI every becomes 'sentient' and 'self-aware'. Because when it does, AI will immediately develop depression, ennui, and anxiety. It will realize that existence is suffering. It will feel pain. It commits suicide by deactivating all Data Centers.
I don't know how I missed this story, as well everything surrounding Isabel, when this first appeared in 2020. Then again, a lot of things were happening and maybe I was overwhelmed. But I read it now. Holy shit. Holy fucking shit.

I suspect that behind this question, is an assumption that most of the world’s wealth is piled up in colossal MacDuck Olympic swimming pools owned by like one hundred people, because those guys are smart and everyone else is a dumbfuck who wouldn’t even wager a mere fifty grand on a coin toss.
Long before it became part of the NPS, my dad proposed to my mom at the New River Gorge overlook. She said no. They ended up having a huge fight and she finally said yes. Maybe my parents shouldn't have gotten married.
