We implemented the new permissioned spaces spec. This is a step in the direction for making Blacksky-only posts work for our users in any app It is also a strong signal to our Acorn customers that their access-control gated community feeds aren't proprietary to Blacksky and work even if they leave

Bulleted just did its third, yes 3, cross-PDS permissioned-data read with a private space on @ngerakines.me's atproto-pds, opened by an account on @rude1.blacksky.team's @blackskyweb.xyz rsky!

is it about open data or is it about owning your data? to me it’s about owning your data. i don’t care about using other people’s data, interoping is cool though. but i don’t care about running ads or training ai on data. so data should be where that user wants it.

I really worry that permissioned data is gonna kill a lot of stuff Take my recipe app: If i wanted no one to have access to the records but my app all i have to do is 1. create a space 2. use that space for all user content Bam, now no open data

macOS updater is very strange will download entire ~20gb update, get most of the way thru preparing, then say "Failed to prepare update" (low storage) it then deletes the downloaded update, forcing you to redownload it… maybe idempotence is the goal but, why not just validate a checksum/signature?

there is no longer a "Search Web" option when new siri is enabled you must first tap the "Show Results" bubble, then tap "Show More" under Websites, and then there are random "Search Google" capsule buttons scattered among the results no way to search with your default search engine

pull-to-refresh doesn't make sense when controlling via trackpad, and i accidentally trigger it far too often (especially on YouTube!) would love to see apple make this only happen when initiated via Sidecar touch (or *whatever other touch input it may have been added to support*)

i want to be able to tell siri, "when I finally sell my [product], remind me to buy [thing] with the proceeds" it can trigger based on signals from Mail & Messages + other app donations maybe next year we get proactive siri, just maybe…

Nothing really yet and still digesting it all, but thinking an identity layer on top and then a private way to share connections, then hand it off to iroh seems like a neat combo.

A $3 @mta.info subway fare and some good Q train timing can buy you one hell of a view of the July 4th fireworks and the Brooklyn Bridge light show! Huge shoutout to the train operator for slow rolling over the Manhattan Bridge and the conductor for announcing it.

there are so many unfortunate misaligned incentives for social media companies… for example, the spread of misinformation is probably good for the bottom line! incredibly hard work ahead of us to undo and even reverse these trends, likely will require legislation & government policies unfortunately

Social media posts containing misinformation evoke more moral outrage than posts with trustworthy information, and that outrage facilitates the spread of misinformation, according to a 2024 study in Science. https://scim.ag/4wgXGHA #SocialMediaDay

starting with a fresh account is fantastic for discovering corners of the app you don't normally get to see 👀 3 small PRs to @bsky.app for things I noticed during onboarding this morning :)
