I was a New Face of 1984 in Harper’s and Queen magazine

I carry the papers into the shop as the shopkeeper goes into the back room. As I leave, Doug arrives and we stand talking about heat and rain like characters in a Somerset Maugham story. We gaze at geese flying by.

Early stroll. The sky has taken delivery of a moon. Orange letters and numbers painted on the pavement. I cross the road earlier than I usually do. Two triangles of bread in the bus shelter. Maybe one day that metal butterfly attached to that wall will fly away.
