I truly believe it saved my life. It showed me there were others like me and there was a way for me to reach them, and I did.

this isn't very popular to say, but for me personally, it was good that i had unrestricted internet access when i was a minor. i was aware of what i was doing and enjoyed it. i don't look back on it and go "well that was a mistake", i look back on it and wish i could do it for the first time again

Everywhere should be a hostile place for Republicans. They should not be able to find a friend anywhere. They should lose all their professional and familial relationships. They should be blocked from signing up to social media platforms, clubs, and yard sales. They should be ejected from fairs.

The idea that the wealthy, the middle class, and the poor are all in completely separate housing markets with no overlap ignores how things work in the real world. In the absence of new high end housing, wealthy people outbid the middle class for the best available existing housing and renovate it.

New MR housing flattens or marginally lowers cost of housing for people in mainstream market, i.e mid-class & some working class people. Which is good. But we shouldnt pretend it meaningfully helps the poor or homeless. They are not competing in the same mainstream market w/ rich or even mid-class.

Cities are good and those of us who choose to live in them need to stop with our self-flagellation about how we aren't as "authentic" as the bigots we or our neighbors came to the city to escape from.

Evan Mast has several papers related to this. New market rate housing *slows* rent increases in poor neighborhoods and creates a moving chain that allows people to move up into progressively better housing/neighborhoods. Seems like a win for all

here’s the reason gentrification discourse is so cursed: housing development is good, and displacement is bad the problem is that many people think development causes displacement, when in reality development prevents displacement. and the word “gentrification” conflates all of the above
