For some California context, this is half of the California State University system's projected allocation for "essential priorities" for the 26/27 fiscal year. Essential priorities are things like salary, facilities, maintenance.

This is whole story is horrifying, and as a journalist covering ICE flights, I was struck by this sentence: “We were shipped to Texas overnight from Los Angeles in horrible conditions that I won’t elaborate on in this letter.”

It was during breakfast, and my parents refused to let me go look, so I had to sit over my cereal while the world went dark through the sliding glass door to the backyard.
Disregard for science + knee-jerk contrarianism + dishonest bluster from Trump (when he wasn't nodding off) + the unfathomable visibility and power of the U.S. government and presidency. All of it in the service of taking public health -- and specifically children's lives -- less seriously.
Baltimore cut homicides 68% with 400 fewer cops, which is a deeply inconvenient plot twist for the “more police is the only way to safety” narrative.

Yesterday, he was sharing a ton of info, facts, & thoughts on the NY Liberty with me, as if it were perfectly normal to be taking women's sports very seriously. Because to him it is. Beautiful.
