New paper showing neighborhood-level socioeconomic opportunity was more strongly associated with children’s brain function than any ptherrr behavioral or environmental examined. In fact, brain activity thought to represent IQ may reflect socioeconomic context www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Patterns of brain-wide associations reflect socioeconomics

Previous brain-wide association studies (BWAS) have linked specific environmental and behavioral variables to brain variability. In this work, we mapped 649 variables to children’s brains and compared...

"MIT wants to rebuild education around the things AI can't replace. That means oral exams, semester portfolios, in-person project work, and a required social component in every subject. The report even floats the idea of rethinking grades entirely..." This is the way forward @tcddublin.bsky.social

MIT has put out an "AI and Education" report summarizing what they've found at their own institution. Seems thoughtful. aiandeducation.mit.edu/report/

Neuronal response properties in the songbird auditory system change when they become parents, tuned more to chick calls! Such a fun study from @prolactingrl.bsky.social in the JNE Special Issue on Parenting. Expect great things from her new lab at UMichigan!

I'm excited to share that my postdoc paper from the @healeylab.bsky.social lab was published today! Here we show that zebra finch parents have stronger auditory responses to chick calls compared to non-parents and that females tend to be more selective in these responses! Also~my 1st ephys paper!! ⬇️

Check out our fresh new paper, out now in iScience! Songbird neuronal ensembles, from dozens of simultaneously recorded auditory neurons. bsky.app/profile/did:... Led by, and thread by, @felipe-cini.bsky.social below!!

#NewPaperOut Here's a puzzle: when a songbird hears the same song repeatedly, its neurons adapt; they respond less and less to that song. But what's the network doing during that adaptation? How do excitatory and inhibitory neurons participate as a collective?

Our lab is re-opening the search for a postdoc! The candidate we chose this round unfortunately had to withdraw (2-body problem). If you or someone you know is looking for a postdoc in ephys + spatial navigation + neurodegeneration, come check us out: aeryjoneslab.github.io

Welcome to the Aery Jones Lab!
