Just to rant on this a bit more, this is one of *several* instances where Trump has gotten us to the brink of war for no reason: North Korea 2017, Iran 2020, Greenland 2026. Plus the actual combat operations against Venezuela and Iran, along with the boat murders. And they're all forgotten already.

Honestly, I don't think anyone talks about it anywhere, at least not to the degree it deserves. The Danes were prepping to blow runways, and the American people just memory holed that entire thing.

There's one easy question that undermines every "the USSR wasn't an imperialist power!" argument: What were the borders the Soviets wanted in the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and how much do they align with the borders of the Russian Empire? Hint: it's almost identical

Exciting news everybody: so long as you change the name on the tin of your empire, it is suddenly not imperialism for you to violently reconquer the people you used to control, it's just sparkling anti-secessionism. Tankies, man, wow.

Me: ...by setting out to reconquer the whole of the empire possessed by the Tsars. At no point were the Bolsheviks, "oh, that Tsarist imperial possession just doesn't want to be ruled from Moscow anymore, we should let them go." The plan was always "murder until they submit." y'know - imperialism. Me: The Fins, the Estonians, the Latvians, the Lithuanians, the Poles, the Ukrainians, the Uzbeks, the Kazakhs, the Kyrgyz, the Tajiks, the Georgians, the Armenians, the Azerbaijanis and more I am probably forgetting all tried to break away from the empire only to be clawed back. That's imperialism! steviebaby: should i list all the confederate states here or do you get the point

Ya know, at some point we're going to have to address the fact that Israel is willing to directly attack US interests. Also, anyone who considers the current Syrian Air Force a threat to Israel is high on something.

Something that doesn't get talked about enough with nuclear proliferation is that acquiring nukes desperately needs to come with a very good early warning system. Leaders of nuclear powers need as much time as possible to decide if they are actually under an attack that requires a nuclear response.

this does i think quite unpredictable and hair raising things in the nuclear age, numerous regional security orders built around the nuclear arsenals of regional hegemons creates triangles and other n-party deterrence dynamics which are probably doomed to instability

I'm begging Europe to get it's act together quicker (they are kinda trying) because us Americans lost our minds (and won't meaningfully find them for far too long) and the Russians will be back, because the Russians *always come back.* And that's not even touching the looming crisis in the Sahel.

i like sanchez very much but there is one trivial problem with his calls for european strategic autonomy and it is that like many people who like the phrase he does not seem to be in any way cognizant of what that requires

If only this could have been foreseen! Like someone saying over a month ago how Hezbollah's fiber optic drone tactics would rapidly advance and pose a serious threat. *Grumbles about knowing the obvious outcome*

#Syria: this morning, an operation launched by the Security forces led to the arrest of one of the Regime's most wanted criminals. Amjad Youssef, the main perpetrator of Tadamon massacre (#Damaccus, April 2013), has been captured. Operation occurred in his home village in the Ghab (NW. #Hama).
