I'm a full Professor of Immunology and fully vaccinated. I didn't get vaccinated out of obedience, but after decades of studying the immune system and evaluating all evidence. Calling that "lack of critical thinking" is not an argument. It's ideology masked as pretend intellect.

Bar Purlieu’s parklet was born of necessity. During the pandemic, Eugene — like many cities — embraced “Streateries,” allowing restaurants to spill into parking lanes and sidewalks. It was a way to expand dining options while adhering to public safety protocols that limited indoor dining.

The Senate is important, but state legislatures are just as big and, as the post notes, these races are a lot more effective use of your dollar.

I think the bad AI/okay AI in scholarship test is this: are you… (1) letting it write blocks of prose for you? If yes, bad AI. (2) Are you letting AI substitute for your independent judgment? If yes, bad AI. Otherwise, everything can be AI, and then any limitation seems meaningless.

I too hope he wins. But every time I go on YouTube, he pops up and tell me he needs "just five dollars" from me. I do wish he and other Democratic pols would realize how corrosive that kind of aggressive begging is. I will look at that list of swing state candidates, though.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

How about we stop worshipping celebrities and stop acting like men are doing women a favor by simply being decent?

I don't care if it's RFK Jr melting down at Dana Bash or a purported El-Sayed supporter screaming at Haley Stevens, the public bullying has to stop. Trump is not a role model for the right or the left. The righteousness of your cause does justify abuse, particularly when it's directed at women.

Those who believe things like this are working hard at not understanding the finite options available to someone whose abuser has not been prosecuted, found guilty, etc. by the law. And how rarely those things happen to abusers, esp. high-status white male abusers.

A physician I know would spend their entire day in 2020 tending to people dying from COVID, then go home and have their parents tell them to their face that it was a hoax. When the doctor would try to share what they were seeing, they were dismissed and told they're just confused.
