These pictures were 902 days apart. Same park. I don't know which is cuter. For years I had hoped to be able to capture ducklings at this park at sunset, and due to park constructions and dedication, it finally happened this week. May your dedication rewarded with such cuteness as well. 🥰 🪶 🐣

a yellow mallard duckling swimming on golden water and going for a drink of water. you can see their little break is open

This morning I took what might be one of my favorite bird photos of the year 🪶

Mandarin duck swims on a smooth Lake and you can see the complete reflection on the water. It's beak is a little bit open

Sometimes I see something in nature and then spend the next several years waiting for the shot. Sometimes I never get it. Sometimes you see it and a week later you land it: I give you tonight's murder of crows in front of the sunset. 🪶

if you suffer from motion sickness with first-person games, please try one of our "motion reduction overlays" in Big Walk — crosshair, frame, or both. this is experimental, but we really want to improve this accessibility issue. give it a bit of time (if you can) then report back!! here's "both":

Big Walk comes out TOMORROW, August 4. "But what time??" we hear you ask. Well! Let us tell you: • on Switch 2 and PS5: late morning-ish for your console region* • on PC and Mac: 6am PDT exactly (11pm AEST)

The audience only wants films ▪️with superheroes ▪️without superheroes ▪️with incredible VFX ▪️with no "CGI" ▪️that help them escape from reality ▪️that are realistic and grounded ▪️that are good distractions ▪️that are thought-provoking Pick one for your post that will be invalidated in two weeks.

I wish I could edit this post to say: “I don’t think a movie should have **DIFFERENT** aspect ratios depending on where and how you see the film.” (Because changing aspect ratios within a film is fun and can be used as a cool storytelling device)

One thing that would probably happen: the actor probably wouldn’t use the term “CGI” ever again because they would see with their own eyes and ears that visual effects are created by people, not computers.

“No CGI” Is Really Just Invisible CGI. Mission Impossible. The Odyssey. Top Gun: Maverick. Dune. Studios & filmmakers love to tout the use of practical effects in such films — “No CGI”, they say. This video series reveals how CGI-heavy they really are. [kottke.org]

Seeing all the DNEG CGI artists on Linkedin point to their name in the credits of The Odyssey after crunching on its CGI for months and then going to social media and seeing everyone say how it avoided CGI is something else. (actually it's not something else -- it's the same as always)

Audiences are largely deciding how much VFX are in movies based on feelz. The more corporate the product the more VFX used and therefore "bad," and it's not only debasing to people who do incredible vfx work, but it's also woefully uninformed how much every production uses VFX.
