I haven’t posted about this, but we leave tonight for our first vacation without the Girl. Almost two weeks in France! Mostly in Paris, but Libi let me cajole her into going to Normandy so I could visit Omaha Beach.
I miss our cat, Ted. Some of you on here probably still remember him. He was a minor internet celebrity for a second, and when I worked for Ilhan, I did several fundraising drives where I would post pics of him in exchange for donation receipts and raised like $25,000.
I don't happen to have any followers who live in Paris/elsewhere in France, do I?
I’ve been building these little kinda knockoff Lego tanks and my new one just got here and it is.. so much bigger than all the other ones I’ve built. It’s got like 6 times as many pieces.
I also put this little guy together last night. Pew pew.
I’m a basic bitch. My favorite Simpsons character is Homer. My favorite Sopranos character is Tony. My favorite Office character is Michael Scott. And my favorite Soviet General is Zhukov.
Being a member of a military high command in world war 2 seems like it would’ve been so fun. Looking at huge maps and moving little flags around on them. Rubbing your chin and saying things like “but what about Manstein’s right?” and giving grudging respect to your opponent.
Just finishing Ullrich’s Hitler biography and I think I have to say I prefer the Kershaw.

There aren’t that many dishes that are really “Israeli” (things like hummus and falafel and pita obviously are not), but one thing that I think is, and is delicious, is a chicken schnitzel inside a pita with hummus, salad, and French fries. Anyone know where I could cop in BK?
minnesota state senator john hoffman revealed tonight at the peggy flanagan rally in st. paul that angie craig asked him for his endorsement for US senate while he was still in the ICU after vance boelter shot him really appalling anecdote!
john hoffman, MN state senator who survived an assassination attempt by vance boelter, who killed mark and melissa hortman, is here supporting omar fateh. he said fateh was his first visitor when he was in hospital. gave him a note saying “we’ll get that fucker” that is still on his fridge
So this one is a fucking banger. Another A+ suggestion from Noah Kulwin.
I have a new conservative-coded belief and it’s that pit bulls and similar breeds of dogs need to be annihilated.
Books recently finished: Ordinary Men, Chris Browning: Best thing I’ve read about the social and psychological conditions of the people who murdered Jews The Lighthouse of Stalingrad, Ian MacGregor: a riveting account of Stalingrad told from the battalion/company level.
I’ve had such great fun with COBI’s 1/72 scale mini tanks, I decided to take a bigger one for a spin.
Finally gonna give a GLP-1 a try for a month. Can't really find any better options than going to HIMS or Ro, at least for the first month, but if anyone has recs, lmk.
Finished my second reading of Tooze’s Wages of Destruction. Excellent. Now for some easy reading:
“So she said, ‘I think the worst part is that this will tear us apart at home.’ And I disagree.” “You do?” “Yeah. I said I thought it was the genocide!”
I’ve started spending real money on MTG Arena and it’s becoming a problem.
Has anyone read anything by Charles Tilly? I’m thinking about reading Coercion, Capital, and European States, but don’t know his deal.
Welp, I’ve finished another one (When Titans Clashed) and don’t have one on deck. Any recs? Still pretty much only interested in world war 2 nonfiction. Attaching my “to read” list in case anyone has recs!
