I saw a post saying that any critic would get a backlash after trashing a popular film. And I'm just not sure that should be normal. It's fun when a critic hates something! We should want reviewers with high standards and weird/obtuse opinions. A film isn't a sports team you support!

Last year I read Adrian Tchaikovsky's scifi novel "Service Model" where something similar to this is occurs. It was such bleak and broken behaviour it pulled me out of the story at the time because it felt unbelievably stupid. It's a great book and he's a great writer. Ya got me on that one Adrian.

This has even crept it's way over to non-fiction. I've read books on making video games that mention the author uses Unreal Engine, that then spend most of the chapter apologizing for excluding anyone using Unity. Like, this is a textbook, not social media. Assume I'm reading this in good faith.
