Watching him deal with this Q&A, it's hard to think of a better communicator since Blair. I'm not talking charisma, being telegenic etc. I mean being able to communicate ideas and come across as someone people might wish to listen to.

Starmer said similar things, but he didn't walk the walk - put off decisions, pretended trade-offs didn't exist, balked at big choices. It really feels like we're getting somewhere, in this area at least.

Burnham's comments today were a kind of anti-populism: a rejection of easy answers, an acknowledgment of trade-offs and a commitment to solve seemingly-intractable problems. Early days, but incredibly refreshing.

We sometimes over complicate things. The reality is the RW media need someone to rally around and, after considering Farage, they have settled on Badenoch. They will now use all their influence to inflate her. The facts do not matter. For the RW media perception is more important than reality.

Look no further. Throw in Robbie 'the Weasel' Gibb. BBC news has suffered a takeover from right wing influencers. Shame as it's other output is often excellent. BBC news is the problem
