whatever story time prior to 6.1, FFXIV had a bug where server logs would leak via uninitialized memory into packets. this is because they seemingly use the same protocol (or buffers) to send packets to players as they do to send logs to their log aggregation service

I understand the developmental reasons why they switched it to the 6 zones per expac format starting with Heavensward but I still think ARR's 17(!!!) smaller, broken-up weirdo zones give Eorzea's geography a grand-feeling scale that they've never really been able to recapture
I can't stand people saying to get into FF14 but rush through ARR because it's the worst part don't worry it gets good later yadda yadda. It's a massive albatross around the games neck to approach it like that. I really liked A Realm Reborn when I was going through it.

"you should skip arr" my handholder in hydaelyn when is the last time you wandered through an arr zone. on foot, or on a mount on the ground (not flying), and just... experienced it? arr is beautiful - the places, the music, everything. take 10 minutes to explore it sometime! really see it!
