That fact that this doesn’t happen shows you exactly what the real goal is here: paint this technology as wildly dangerous, then pass regulation that entrenches existing companies and stomps out competition. Particularly from countries we view as ‘adversaries’ or economic competition.

We have a solution to this problem already. It’s called the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and it’s older than I am. No actual person had their hands on the keyboard? Doesn’t matter. Someone owns the systems involved here. Charge those people and this shit will stop happening overnight.

This does a very careful job of avoiding talking about the cost per token. These cost "improvements" aren't actually improvements in cost, they're improvement in token consumption. That's not nothing, but it also still doesn't address the COGS problem for tokens. $ per token is everything
