Is anyone here working with (agentic) AI at an innovation agency? If so, it would be great to share experiences @fteval.bsky.social's upcoming conference, taking place in Vienna in February 2027.
Vienna to Gothenburg. One of the crazier train ideas I’ve had recently. First up is the night train to Hamburg. It’s also my first time in an ÖBB Nightjet mini cabin. Let’s see how this goes.
Great talks are rare. This one by @13pt.com is great even just from the slides and the transcript. Lots of advice I'll be putting to use for my upcoming lecture this fall.
How you give a talk is as important as its content. It is a form of information design. style.org/talk/

Thanks for sharing, Andrés!
#Maps are the essence of #geography. Designed poorly, they silence data; designed well, they communicate powerfully and attract lots of attention. Read @jakobeder.bsky.social @regstud.bsky.social blog on why graphicacy matters: www.regionalstudies.org/rsa-blog/202...
Many thanks to @regstud.bsky.social and @rsablog.bsky.social for giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts on designing better maps in academia. And to @cchlebna.bsky.social for encouragement and feedback.

I’ve been reflecting on public transport in rural-peripheral regions over the past weeks. I’ve put my thoughts together in a longer post, you can read it here: www.linkedin.com/posts/jakob-...
Technische Störung: Klimaanlage, Schiebetüren und Reservierungsanzeige kaputt. Aber der Waggon ist schon mit dabei. Ich sitze darin.
The @economist.com‘s consumer survey definitely stands out compared to others I’ve taken in the past.
Embarking on a little train adventure over the next few days! First up: the ÖBB Nightjet 468 to Paris. A two-hour delay gave me an unexpected chance to take in the charm of Vienna Meidling station.
Kurzversion: absurd.
This is a really good piece on the haves and have-nots of public higher education, using Western Illinois University as a case study. I'm worried about the future of rural higher education and rural America.
America’s College Towns Go From Boom to Bust
Enrollment is plummeting at lesser-known universities, taking down the local businesses they had fostered.

Schon gesehen, @lhaffert.bsky.social?
Wichtiges Feature (cc @gruenwald.bsky.social) orf.at/wahl/wien25/...
Trying this one again: Favourites? Anyone?
Again aiming for the wisdom of the crowd: I am looking for scientific papers/publications with excellent #visualizations of their findings (charts, maps, ...). Not #dataviz-papers, but instead papers from other disciplines, applying the principles of #dataviz. Do you have any favourites?

Found it: It was the transcript with slides from a presentation by Jonathan Corum at the University of Copenhagen’s Faculty of Health Sciences (@13pt.com). Limiting my Google results to pre2020 did the trick: style.org/ku/

I'm looking for a talk on YouTube (?) from quite some time back. It was a presentation by a NYT staffer, showing how they make bad graphics from scientific papers better, i.e. digestable for the NYT audience. Any ideas? Maybe @mhernandez.bsky.social?

I also thought about using memes in my lecture, but wasn't sure if my students would find them as outdated as Simpson references. @jamoeberl.bsky.social encourages me to test some of the geography memes I already prepared:
After every class, I ask students for instant feedback to improve my lecture & revisit anything unclear. The top request? ‘We are Gen Z, we need more memes.’ So, #CommSky & #PolSky, I need your help—do you have any good ‘quanti methods’ memes for me? #ResearchDesigns #DataCollection #ResearchEthics

And Now for Something Completely Different: Für Osttiroler liegt bald die Universität Graz näher als jene von Innsbruck.
I recently came across a publication with a map that showed European regions (NUTS2 or NUTS3) based on their challenges/potentials for sustainability transitions. It seems I didn't bookmark it, though. Any of you any ideas?
