One thing we talked about here, that is always a big issue for me when bringing our own culture to the game table, is the line between exploring lived realities with intention, and gamifying those lived realities for Others to cosplay in. One person's trauma cannot become another's playground.
TODAY @glitzydemon.itch.io talks with Aida about the joy of storytelling and the importance of remembering and honouring. Streaming on our YouTube and Twitch at 7pm BST/8pm CEST
Research on Romanies in general is under funded & unsupported British Romanies have suffered from a very successful Cultural Genocide that homogenises their ethnic identity with Irish Travellers & other itinerant people. Yet British universities & funders have no interest in this ethnocide.

Pleasantly surprised with how far the post of Roma Holocaust Day got, thanks to everyone who liked/shared Anti-Romani racism is still such an issue across the UK & Europe These are two of the first comments you see on the EU's X post about Roma Holocaust day. These are common throughout the thread
Today is Roma Holocaust Memorial Day. Around 500,000 Roma & Sinti people were killed by the Nazis in the Porajmos. There was no state given to them after the war. Commemoration of their suffering is often diminished or forgotten. Racism towards Romani people across Europe remains acceptable.
The anti-Roma bigotry and politics in Europe that remains common and accepted is truly shocking. When you realize things like forced sterilization and pogroms still occur even now it makes you realize how little has been done since 1945 to stop it. It must be fought.

In our little cottage industry, stereotyping Romani as thieves and witches in TTRPGs continues, sometimes under a thin fantasy veneer, sometimes with full slurs involved. It needs to called out more often than it is.

On 2 August 1944, the last 4,300 Roma and Sinti at Auschwitz were gassed to death. More than 500,000 Roma and Sinti were killed in the Pharraijmos - the Roma Holocaust. Holocaust Remembrance Day, August 2nd. A poem from my book, Parramisha: A Romani Poetry Collection.
I see some people are reading this post as being about Exeter but it’s referring to the University of Hertfordshire. And that’s Owen’s point. Less coverage about the axe falling there but it’s equally sad.
So a whole lot of my talented Humanities colleagues are now unemployed as of today. A lot of understandable concern over Exeter. But for over two decades my Hums colleagues were in the top quartile for their research contribution to society. History top 10. Now gone with only a national whisper.
Please share: I am working on the History Lab + & History UK ECR Survey with @kerrymlove.bsky.social . We collating contacts to disseminate the survey to later this year. The survey examines support received by ECRs post-PhD in history or related subjects (such as archaeology and art history). (1/3)
The day I will pay attention to politicians guffing about "parity of esteem" is the day one of their children goes to an FE college.

What's gender go to do with it? Within UK SHAPE disciplines, women are 51% of academic staff (39% of professors). In STEM, that's 45% of all academics (27% of professors). What are the impacts of disproportionate SHAPE redundancies on those stats? Is anyone attending to gender equality? 1/2
Yet another program to reinforce stereotypes that get applied to all British Romani, Roma & Irish Traveller people. Media such as this is so damaging & sets up society to laugh & judge marginalised groups. 4 stars says a lot about the Guardian too www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

Incidently whenever I post about anti-Romani racism in society- its always academics that unfollow me because of it. Conversely its non-academics that follow when I do these posts.

This is what Romanies in the UK have to live with every day I've been told research into British Romani history & dispelling stereotypes like this is less important than Chinese Typeface, Prostitutes in early modern Dijon & why a Roman BLACKsmith god was portrayed as black Humanities isn't serious
Argentines behave poorly at world cup: Romanies cop the strays There is no racism like it that is so acceptable throughout all levels of society without challenge.

Disappointed that Burnham hasn't announced plans for this yet Should be a priority as there's only a couple of months of the season left 🤣
