I think the aftermath of the Kirk shooting really proves just how desensitized ordinary Americans have gotten to low-intensity gun violence, which to be fair is in part his own damn fault. To the right-wing media, though, the fact one of their own could get cut down like this was a genuine trauma.

These kids have been raised seeing adults do fuck-all about gun violence directed at them, while simultaneously having to think about it at least twice a year when their school does lockdown drills. Is it any wonder they have dark humor about the situation?
