Exactly 20 years ago, we began principal photography on the first feature I directed, "Yesterday Was a Lie," for eOne (and later IndiePix). As I go into production on my newest film, I can't help but reminisce about those times long past with tremendous gratitude. "Where do you start?"… indeed. 🥲
I guess it's schedule-posting day! #STLV @johnchampion.bsky.social @larrynemecek.bsky.social @robertjsawyer.com

Got a Panasonic UB420 (and 48Gbps cables). I've been watching movies AND listening to CDs on it. While I appreciate the convenience of playing AACs and M4Vs from my server, there's no comparison to physical media. Bonus points: I'll still have my stuff after the sudden but inevitable EM pulse. 😅
Why are people buying so many CDs?
Collectors, affordable prices, and big K-pop albums.

I love you @playstartrekonline.com… but getting a "leaver penalty" for leaving a TFO when you're the ONLY player remaining in the TFO (because the other two quit)? Tell me this is gonna be fixed. Please? Help me @thomasthecat.bsky.social… you're my only hope! 🥹

"As streaming became dominant, a shelf full of stuff started to look like a relic of a clumsier time. When titles started disappearing from digital collections, however, those dusty stacks reemerged as both a critical contingency plan and material proof that the media business was changing."
Physical Media Matters, Now More Than Ever
From Sony's new removals to Netflix's old originals, here's why physical media, Blu-rays, DVDs, and film preservation matter more than ever.

Long before Avid, FCP7, Premiere… this is how I learned to make movies as a young'un: VCR-to-VCR, facilitated by "ancient" tech called the "Videonics DirectED Plus." @popsci.com recently rediscovered this quaint treasure… but to a few of us—we happy few—this was what set us upon our career paths.
The forgotten technology that made YouTube possible
In 1987, the Videonics DirectED seemed groundbreaking, so what happened to it?

It deserves ALL the love!
Thank you very much for the love, @pcgamer.com! Take a look at writer Fraser Brown's breakdown on why STO is still going strong, and why it's the best Star Trek game out there. https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/after-outliving-6-star-trek-tv-shows-star-trek-online-deserves-more-love/
This is both incredibly touching, incredibly poignant, and also kinda sad. In 1000 years, perhaps we will all be remembered as Onfim is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onfim

One of the most traumatizing lines in sci-fi fandom: “Vila weighs 73 kilos.” RIP Michael Keating. You made it into orbit.
The Foundational Questions Institute has released new data regarding wavefunction collapse that sounds intriguingly similar to Roger Penrose's arguments re: objective reduction (Sir Roger is one of the Nobel Prize-winning members of the FQxI)! www.sciencedaily.com/releases/202...
Physicists just found a tiny flaw in time itself
Physicists are rethinking one of quantum mechanics’ biggest puzzles: how fuzzy possibilities become definite reality. New research suggests that spontaneous “collapse” processes—possibly linked to gra...

Gas has now gone up to 32¢ per gallon in Rancho Bernardo?! Outrageous!!!
It's dead, Jim. Back in the day, I used to love these things… Over time I owned at least two, maybe three of them? I remember the time when these bad boys were the gold standard — and kinda the only real game in town — when it came to cutting and finishing a theatrical feature.
