Mathew ends his great review of this exhibition with a puzzle contained within the Hampden Portrait of Elizabeth I. What’s with that foot poking out at the bottom of the wall tapestry behind her? Also, is that an eye looking out from the foliage? Maybe there’s a solution to the mystery… 1/15👇
