I repair/hack/make/destroy stuff on YouTube/PeerTube. Retrocomputing, VintageAudio, Tinkering. As unprofessional as it gets. Chaotic good. Anti-fascist. C64 rules. https://janbeta.net/

Mini PC (from my last video) update: Been trying to edit videos on it, and while it works well with Kdenlive, DaVinci Resolve doesn’t have H264/265 support in the free version (which is what my camera spits out). Kdenlive feels a bit clunky to me, too. I like Resolve better (even if it isn’t FOSS).

We need more Keyboard Overlays. There’s something kind of special about having one over your computer keyboard. A shame that we don’t have such things for modern games. But I guess controllers took care of that…

My (modified) C64C, featuring a Gunshio keyboard overlay on top of it.

If I see a genAI slop thumbnail for your YouTube video, I won’t watch it. If I see a genAI slop picture or text in your blogpost, I won’t read it. If I see a vibe coded game, I won’t play it. I like human created stuff. Imperfections are good. They are personal. They are art.

New video coming later today. This one took a lot of time to make and it’s only going to be useful for a handful of people. The fun of having niche interests, I guess. Hope it’s still going to be somewhat enjoyable to watch for a few more of you. 😅

Haha, the next #Amiga3000T video is going to sound like pure clickbait. "You won’t believe what the fault was!" I certainly didn’t. Took me a while (and a magnifier) to figure it out. Video coming soon! 🫠

An Amiga 3000T circuit board on my workbench. The side with the expansion slots is visible. There’s a printed out circuit diagram sitting on the PCB with a magnifying glass resting on the paper.

#C64 #Delphian progress: minor update as I've just added the horizon curve at high altitude. Next step is to add a planet in space (and I have a circle draw ready for that). Then comes re-entering orbit, and then return to surface flight. Oh, and did I say I'm having lots of fun with this?😀🥰

A cockpit view of my WIP C64 game Delphian, showing the horizon curving at high altitude.

#C64 #Delphian progress: finally got the code working for the transition from flight to entering space. Still WIP and a bit rough, and I still want to curve the horizon at high altitude. But here's what I have so far, from walking around, boarding a ship and flying around, to heading into space...

Any free Linux DAWs out there that work reliably with Wayland (I tried Ardour but it keeps crashing)? Running Kubuntu on an elderly MacBook Pro 2015 here and would love to do some basic multitrack recording/editing, using some software instruments & plugins. Audacity/Tenacity are a bit too basic.
