This should be so obvious that it doesn’t need to be said, but given what kind of weekend it’s been on here, apparently it does: If you don’t want old rapists running the world, in office, in the board room, making decisions for all of us get comfortable with “ruining” young rapists’ lives
Just a fun Sunday evening using vlookup and pivot tables on some Arlington property tax data...
Wouldn't this be great to have in Arlington? Car-free streets for the most dangerous day of the year for child pedestrians. (Regardless, don't drive on Halloween unless you absolutely need to)
NYC is opening 160 car-free (but treat-filled) streets and plazas to enjoy fun and safe fall festivities this spooky season. Find one near you at nyc.gov/trickorstreets.
Again, <only Republicans> ever get to talk like this. If a single municipal level Democrat ever did, it would be a national outrage &spark a wave of “civility” discourse, & op-eds about how Dems must Respect Real Folkz & talk across difference. Democracy is incompatible with this double standard.

Arlington rents keep rising. We aren't full, and we need more apartments! www.arlnow.com/2026/10/02/a...
@rorystolzenberg.bsky.social made this amazing interactive map of Arlington's General Land Use Plan (GLUP) Map from 1961 to 2024. Take a look and see how little has changed in 60 years: rorystolzenberg.github.io/arlington-gl...

🔥 👇 I've seen NIMBYs using TOD language as an argument against adding apartment, so I think this is pretty spot-on. TOD *should* mean that we get apartments next to every bus stop.
My most radical take is that TOD is a scam invented by single-family home preservationists to find a scientifically sound way to concentrate "those people" is specific areas outside of where real people live, and urbanists have embraced it because it's better than nothing.
Like, regulations that establish decreasing density at arbitrary distances from higher-order transit stations are pure political compromises, with no scientific evidence, and a caricature of how market forces work (or how laypeople think they work).

With the election forecast trending blue, I asked Chuck Schumer what his agenda will be next year if Democrats win the Senate. “Well, stay tuned. And one thing — what we're going to do is lower costs, end all this rampant corruption, and end the chaos. Plain and simple.”
@nathanielcgreen.bsky.social I think you were at this game!
A phenomenal moment in the Senate. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., claims he has evidence Jack Smith went to a HAWKS game in Atlanta. Smith denies it. Schmitt declares he has busted Jack Smith for perjury. Smith, vexed, says he went to HAWKEYES game in Maryland. WATCH IN FULL, UNINTERRUPTED

This is heart-breaking. I'm starting to let my 10 year old bike in the neighborhood on his own and I worry about drivers. We need serious road diets along all streets, especially around schools and parks.
The 13-year-old killed near Frost Middle School was among three Fairfax County students hit in separate crashes Wednesday while riding a bike or scooter.

Overblown or not, the AI industry isn't even trying to make an affirmative case for them. Gas turbines, constant noise, high water demands--oh, okay, is this for an emergency hospital after a disaster? No? It's just so rich people who will never even visit here can become even richer? Then no.

ACTION ALERT 🚨 Right now, the Senate is considering adding language to the transportation reauthorization bill to restrict bike lanes. Tell Congress: funding for bike safety projects MUST continue! Take action: action.bikeleague.org/page/101946/...
We have to hold these people to account for the damage they are doing.
BREAKING: Liam Tadeo was just deported by ICE.
New study suggests that a shortage of secure bike parking is limiting e-bike adoption. Glad to see this issue getting attention. It's intuitive that people with quasi-secure bike storage might be OK risking a pedal bike, but not an e-bike that's more expensive. doi.org/10.1016/j.tr...

A fellow YIMBY is help me dig into the history of Arlington's General Land Use Plan. More to come, but my bottom line is that not much has changed in over 60 years. It is time to modernize the GLUP.
