Grandkids have asked me to collect the current Woolies “Ooshies”. I asked eldest grandchild why they were interested in these (they weren’t in the last Woolies thing) and she said: “Grandad, it’s the nostalgia! We used to have these when we were kids!” Folks, she’s only just turned 13..

The US has been OK with kids being killed (by anyone with a gun) since 1776 really. The recent trend towards expanding the franchise to also letting LLMs do this is pretty aligned with the overall theme the country is fine with. 🤷🏾

Yes. It was bad policy to lock people into towers e.g Victoria. It will never not be quite bizarre that people - even in 2026 - will seek to defend lockdowns as “good policy” despite many enquiries finding they were implemented quite badly and destroyed much public trust.

Fascinating thread about how normalized gun ownership and use is in the US that this type of discussion is a thing. Meanwhile in Australia, dozens of police arrived in a “major deployment” because a guy was seen with a gun in public. Which turned out to be fake.

Apple workers could have gotten $4 MILLION each over 8 years. Instead, Apple spent $650 BILLION on stock buybacks. Shareholders got rich. Workers got nothing. This isn't investment. It's theft. Tax the rich.

I’ve been using Linux since roughly v0.1 when H Lu’s boot/root disk was the “installation release” and technical support was emailing this guy named Linus - who I admit was pretty quick to reply with fixes.. ..and it’s only been 25+ years out of 35ish that folks have been predicting this..

Not sure if that means 10% of desktops will run linux or linux will run 10% of the time on desktops..

"Data centers bring jobs..." makes me laugh as spouse of IT person responsible for an international organization. Their data center is 2,000 miles away. EVERY THING is done remotely. There's nobody there. Nobody is making that daily commute.

Police will absolutely help with “property crime” as long as your net worth is in 8-9 figures or more. It’s a little odd folks don’t recognise who police work *for* as opposed to who *employs* police.

The only people who believe the police help with property crime haven't regularly needed the police to help with property crime. If someone suggests police as an answer for theft, carjacking, or burglary I usually assume they've never experienced seeking the aid of police for any of these things.

They aren’t wrong. We went from 0 EVs to 1 EV in our household in this timeframe. Currently replenishing the electron tank with sunshine electrons “for free” as you read this..

My youngest kid likes to spot different color cars so on the ride to camp this morning I drove through a dealership's lot so we could find more colors. Friends, there were ONLY black, white, grey, and beige vehicles. Bring back fun colors of cars!
