I say the obvious part out loud (and then some) Radical democratic pragmatist (this is the way) Proud partner & joyous parent (for whom I live) SFUCMNS is the best (@sfucmns.bsky.social) life is present ... THE POINT IS TO CHANGE IT

#newwest pride yesterday NWP claim to be supporters of the Queer community yet refused to acknowledge the fact they have endorsed writers who promotes transphobia via local "journalism" Pride new west didn't want them there but NWP socials make it look like everyone gets along.

Daniel Fontaine & Kash Heed's "Metro Vancouver Accountability Campaign" is a vapid campaign gimmick, but if taken seriously as a proposal, it advocates for a costly expansion of governance unlikely to produce much of anything in return. So much for fiscal responsibility! #NewWest #Richmond #BCpoli

The new 7th Ave bike lanes in New West are open in both directions and they're fantastic! This was my route to high school back in the day. But after a few too many close calls with drivers, I started riding on the sidewalk. And after getting yelled at a lot, I stopped riding all together.

This is (will be?) #NWP & Daniel Fontaine's m.o. vs #NewWest. #CityHall as enemy (for which current mayor is surrogate); if elected, it predictably devolves: firings, lawsuits, labour disputes. Fomenting "us" (*his* taxpayers) vs "them" (*our* staff), all while earning *our* $. This we must resist.

This pattern of politicians running against their own bureaucracies as champions of the people was tagged as "the dysfunctional dance of local governance" by Mariana Valverde when she saw it in Toronto in EVERYDAY LAW ON THE STREETS from 2012. Its biggest beneficiary? Rob Ford.

Gotta wonder who is involved in #NWP social media and what their marching orders are. Persistently demonstrating an incapacity to cooperate or to credit #NewWest city staff for their work is the opposite of a smart way to audition for leadership roles. #VoteNewWest - but not for nonsense like this.

An outstanding way for a political party to respond to one of their potential constituents. The NWP respond to questions with contempt and laughter, it’s a terrible response and it’s a terrible party. #NewWest

The easiest way to donate is by e-transfer to admin@newwestnh.ca (as @trudiagogo.bsky.social also pointed out). #NewWest

Hey #NewWest. The call went out; you delivered! Thank you! The volume of donations at Kelvin is a bit overwhelming & they need to pause taking more in until the Neighbourhood House volunteers can organize, sort, & start distributing it all. Gift cards & monetary donations still appreciated!

2 short windows of time for people to donate clothes and gift cards and money for people displaced by a devastating fire in #NewWest and the donation centre has had to pause because they are overwhelmed with donations. If you want to help e-tran to admin@newwestnh.ca

““Our response cannot rely on telling individuals to be more prepared, because preparedness depends on whether someone has money, mobility, access to a car, different living spaces, or someone checking in on them,” Wang said.”

A group of doctors, nurses and paramedics marked the five-year anniversary of the 2021 heat dome on June 29, reflecting on how British Columbia remains at high risk for heat-related injuries and deaths. thetyee.ca/News/2026/07...

Spent some time yesterday down on River Drive hearing from some local residents (and a few curious onlookers from other neighborhoods) about concerns regarding the BC Housing Heart and Hearth project to build 30 transitional housing homes in a Tiny Homes Village. #NewWest

In a lot of ways, it reminds me of how a lot of folks reacted to the explosion in home prices last decade by going “well, Vancouver has always been expensive”. If you’re comfortable or in the middle of things, it’s easy to get detached and not realize when things have dramatically changed.

Hey #NewWest. There was a report by our Ethics Commissioner released yesterday, relating to my use of some disparaging language last December on this here social media platform. I accept the Ethics Commissioner’s findings and appreciate the work that went into the review. 🧵 1/x

I'm really proud of #NewWest for taking leadership on this. Identifying vulnerable people and buildings, equipping first responders better, funding cooling kits and retrofits, planning long-term to deal with the urban heat island, and now BC leading bylaws... www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

The B.C. heat dome had a deadly impact on New Westminster. 5 years later, cooling is top of mind | CBC News

Five years after extreme heat killed 33 people in New Westminster, the city has built out a network of cooling stations and passed bylaws aimed at cooling apartments.

Just for the record, after #NWP failed to respond to my query about their blocking practices, I've posted an open letter on Facebook (attached as images here). NWP's performance as an Elector Group betrays their stated values, those of their candidates, and #NewWest residents. tinyurl.com/v6zhwdu6

I emailed the #NewWest Progressive elector group and its elected officials to question their decision to block criticism on Facebook. 4 days later, not a peep in response. Hopefully we'll learn that it's a mistake and not an intentional tactic—for the latter would be deeply concerning. #NWP

Ouch. Asking "at what point is this city going to say no more population growth until our infrastructure meets current demand" is a chilling & cringe take on cities, economies, & humans. Managing growth in #NewWest is hard—but calling for no more people is both terrible policy and outright yucky.

Did you know that homes generate people? What nonsense. Fortress #newwest is on the ballot this October. Make sure you show up to kick out these NWP misanthropic fantasists. (Also, yes @davidebybc.bsky.social should fund schools and pools.) (And every other street should be a linear park.)

Still from a video of a New Westminster candidate for office saying “we need to stop building until we start building amenities first”.

This might be one of the most insane scandals in game history When Pokemon Go players scan PokeStops, theyve been unknowingly building a detailed visual model of the world which is being sold to a military contractor to build a no-GPS positioning for the new generation of unmanned killing machines
