For all that the progressives love what Seattle is doing, this is one thing they’re doing wrong. School lunch (and breakfast!) should be free and universal, full stop. No vouchers, no means testing.

Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social · 2w agoThe Seattle City Council just voted 6-3 to approve Joy Hollingsworth's amendment to delay universal school lunches for kids, replacing them with vouchers for qualifying low-income parents to buy groceries over school breaks and weekends. Eddie Lin, Alexis Mercedes Rinck, and Rob Saka voted no.
Always good to keep in mind that it does not matter how the fire starts. Fires start all the time, but what really matters is the high heat and low humidity to dry out fuels causing the fire to spread rapidly. And these conditions are increasing every year with anthropogenic climate change.

I know that most of our digital tools are controlled by awful billionaires and it's almost impossible for us to divest ourselves of all of them. But I think that X and Substack are so horribly toxic that everyone should avoid them as much as possible.

There are so many wide non-arterial streets in #NewWest that could look like this. Ash Street, Blackford Street, Pine Street, Churchill Avenue, just to name a few.

I love driving on 7th Ave between 6th and moody park. No worries about cyclists trying to navigate parked cars. Clearly marked parking spaces and new planting. Really makes driving around New West easier.

Robert Rohde@rarohde.bsky.social · 2w agoTemperatures during fire season in Canada (May-Sept) have risen a bit more than 2 °C (3.6 °F) in the last 50 years. Climate warming doesn't start fires, but persistent hot and dry conditions can increase flammable fuel load, making any fires that do occur more severe. 1/
