Network nerd. Hanging out with cats and wonderful people whenever possible. I've made computers, gizmos, vegetables, coffee, and occasionally some sense.

Watched a bunch of 80s movies, and I think the reason that society is crumbling is because it's being run by the sort of people that William Atherton would have played. Real Genius and Ghostbusters at least

Weird Al is an example of how someone can be funny without being cynical, without punching down. He has fun being funny. He told us GenX brats that it's okay to enjoy things. The cultural impact of that is lost to time I think. But the cynicism of the 89s/90s was pervasive. Joy was revolutionary.

The Antikythera Mechanism, recovered from a Greek shipwreck dated to ~60 BCE, is the world’s oldest known analog computer. Built around 100 BCE with 30+ bronze gears, it accurately predicted eclipses and tracked the Sun, Moon, and planets over 2,000 years ago. ⚙️🌍

I was second in line at a store the clerk was stressing, the woman in front of me just wanted to leave, the receipt printer wasn't working. I said "I'm a computer tech, I know the trick." Yelled "DEMONS OUT!" and slapped it. Immediately started working. Inspired by The Far Side, naturally.

I once asked a priest to bless a printer that I was in the middle of fighting with and he went "I only bless things when there's a chance it'll take" and then turned and walked out of the room.
