just have some random event on my calendar called “There Will Come Soft Rains”. no idea where it came from, what it means (beyond the reference to the story and poem), when it got there. it’s an all day event, so i guess i have all day to figure it out.
i have recently rewatched The Jetsons and now have started The Flintstones. that's where the mental health is. i have to ask, how is it i remember these cartoons roughly on equal standing? The Flintstones surprisingly holds up, but the Jetsons is awful. It's almost like outsider art sometimes
chat can anyone verify that every single Flock camera has about 2-3 Ibs of copper and about 1-2 grams of gold
OSS was the original sound system for Linux and got superseded by ALSA over twenty years ago. Incredibly, the ArchWiki still has detailed instructions for setting up your entire computer to use OSS for audio, on a page that continues to receive regular updates wiki.archlinux.org/title/Open_S...

i remember in my freshman year of high school making some offhand comment about how a classmate's backpack looked like mine. he said (jokingly) "no *yours* looks like *mine*" that was 28 years ago and i just realized the irony of this comment being made in a math class
i just only now found out about $RANDOM??? (many shells like bash and zsh set the special shell variable $RANDOM at the moment you access it to a random number between 0 and 32767. each access gets you a new random number. who knew?)
winds shifted from the east, and it's getting very bladerunnery out there
i guess i could just change my name to kira nerys i could just do that nobody's stopping me i am a free human being whose every heartbeat draws me closer to death, and i could just spend that time living the dream i could but nah
It feels like the linguistic equivalent of how we selectively bred feral wolves until we got bulldogs that can barely even breathe without help
It's August! The French name for this month is fascinating because they went from Latin "augustus" to Old French "aoust" which finally got reduced to "août". And out of those remaining letters, only one or two letters actually get pronounced. They went from "augustus" to "oo" (or "oot").

total speculation on my part, but a lot of what people are calling "AI psychosis" is probably more like severe AI addiction. on some level you're probably aware that you're off the deep end, but your fascination motivates you to chase that high wherever the robot leads.
imagining a universe with Ruby Jims you specify the Jims in Jimfile and that creates Jimfile.lock
Not a rhetorical question! You're looking for the Fair Food Program by @immokaleeworkers.bsky.social It's mostly in tomatoes, & the dairy co-ops that serve Ben & Jerry's ice cream up in Vermont. You'd be amazed how cheap it is to treat people right. For tomatoes, it's literally 1-2 cents/lb.
naive rhetorical question, to prompt your opinion I'd pay a premium for food not grown by exploited workers (bonus, with less poop on it). I don't want to find a farmer I personally trust. Why isn't a certification like that readily accessible? Is there no market, or eg do other farmers block it?
i am sorry to anyone who follows me who worked on destiny 2, but you must understand this is the highest praise
oh then that changes my answer from "don't" to "do" because it's still a completely insane video game but it is now tractable IMO
every Void flavored status effect you can cause in the game Destiny 2 looks like you just planted a bomb inside a grimace milkshake and gave it to a bunch of aliens
remember that time that Jack Skellington learned about Christmas and went so feral he didn't realize he was out of control until the military literally started firing SAMs at his sleigh?
sometimes i can hear god speaking through someone's art
I'm down a rabbit hole on combination utensils. There's my beloved SPORK, but then we get into the much more exotic combos: This one's called a FORKCHOP, designed by Donald BonAsia in Los Angeles, available now through a variety of online retailers.

allow me to surf on odyssey hype to repost an old piece from 2013 Penelope, Queen of Ithaca - 30x40cm ink on claybord
is it bad that i recognize this as the Sony font and know this has to be about PlayStation?

What is light pollution?
Light pollution is the human-made alteration of outdoor light levels from those occurring naturally. When we over-light, fail to use timers and sensors, or use the wrong color/temperature of light…

This week I met with Alisha Sullivan, Executive Director of Nightlab, the organization formerly known as Willamette Light Brigade, which produces the Portland Winter Light Festival. She told me about Illuminate Bridge City, a bold vision to light seven Willamette River bridges.
