Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.

One of my pet peeves is studying with religious folks who can't hold multiple truths. Me: Maybe when God separated the heavens and the earth — Them: That's not what actually happened Me: Yes. But taking the text at face value momentarily, we might learn — Them: But it didn't happen Me: 🙄🤐

I think I've figured out why Stancil keeps flipping out about AI and consciousness: he thinks Skinnerism is the default, against which all other models must be tested

Doctorates in various fields are crazy bc some students are like "I have been planning this research since undergrad and will spend the next 7 years in a basement to complete my thesis" and others are like " Hi mom group d-list, I need to interview a parent for my research, can you spare 5 min 🤗"

Been thinking about Shabnam Nasimi's analysis of a scene in Hasan Minhaj's "Best of the Best," about how real people are too often thought of as not worthy of empathy or consideration if they aren't part of a group that's in vogue www.tiktok.com/@shabnamnasi...

This truly broke my heart, I cried filming this. @hasanminhaj @netflix, the people of Afghanistan falling to their deaths from a plane is not a punchline. Not all representation is good representation...

Consumption of violence is a choice; it radicalizes. In a world that thrives on instantaneous gratification, we all know why folks spend their time watching videos that produce hateful "righteous" indignation rather than doing something productive like volunteering or even talking with a neighbor

i take this back, fully retract it, and i apologize for how i phrased this. i posted this while angry at the constant barrage of years of my life witnessing senseless murder in palestine, and this is no way to express my opinion, which is an end to all conflinct in the region. i’m sorry

I thought maybe Rav Kahana was just an odd duck who decided to learn everything about EVERYTHING by sleeping under Rav's bed, but apparently sleeping under the beds of the elders was a Whole Thing around that time, so now I no longer know what to believe

One who sleeps beneath the bed in the sukka did not fulfill his obligation, because the bed constitutes a tent that serves as a barrier between him and the roofing of the sukka. Rabbi Yehuda said: It was our custom that we would sleep beneath the bed before the Elders and they did not say anything to us to the effect that we are not fulfilling our obligation

The reason some Jews are so skeptical of criticism of Israel, (and this is explanation and not defense), is that you start with "the Israeli government is racist" and end with what the Green Party actually adopted, which is, "Individual UK Jews can be punished for attending shuls we deem Zionist."

Jewsky, a request for assistance: Kiddo asked for a "textured" tallit. Something not too heavy bc shul gets hot sometimes, but with plenty for a sensory seeker. He identified our touristy woven blanket as ideal (see image.) The only Judaica shop in our town closed; where should I order from?

Woven blanket

This is in reference to Jews wanting the right to practice our religion as we see fit, which is apparently offensive to people who (checks notes) are extremely uneducated and quite possibly basement dwellers

A single wickedly simplistic thread connects the individuals who believe that leftists cannot be antisemitic with those who believe that Christians are good by definition, those who believe that Zionism is racism, and those who believe that Muslims are stealthily taking over Europe

I’ve never been in denial about it but I do think today was the first day I truly realized how much antisemitism is spreading and being normalized in online far-left circles. It’s scary and frightening and is only going to get worse if the left insists it’s not a problem.

As someone who breaks my life into a series of tasks more than most people (e.g. walking is a practiced series of conscious muscle activations and cooking is a more complex series of planned physical and cognitive activities), I think we often downplay the role of flexibility in human systems

Believe it or not, a lot of people do not have to-do lists. And the the lists many of them have are not structured for an ai agent to be helpful. This isn’t groundbreaking. If you have ever watched the evening news or read even a single story about people who aren’t like you, it is pretty basic

Hazards of teaching children how to build a campfire: I'll return from this trip with slightly less hair than before One ill-timed poke of the fire and whoosh - crackle - singe Kiddo learned his lesson tho 😶

Maybe if the goal of human existence was effortless survival, this would be fine. I prefer humans to find beauty and joy in our lives. There is beauty and creative joy in math - and humor - as in all human pursuits We should be loathe to cede human pursuits; the best parts of life involve struggle

Ezra Klein asked Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang about AI making kids worse at math and reading. Huang’s reply: “Does it matter?” Then he said he doesn’t know his own address or phone number. “We’re going to lose some fine intellectual dexterity.” www.nytimes.com/2026/09/23/o...

So the message of this research out of China, where you were seeing a lot of kids using A.I. to help them, was that when they were using the A.I., they were getting things done faster. But it turned out that the skills they were learning were not holding, that their actual personal performance, at least in the way we traditionally measure it, was degrading.

What do you think when you hear that?

The last part — I completely agree. Try to get a kid to do long division right now. The multiplication table is starting to be forgotten. Doing square roots, my goodness. Basic math is being forgotten. Does it matter?

That’s my question for you.

Yeah. I don’t think it does. I don’t think it does.

But there must be some set of skills that matter.

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. But maybe not those. We’re going to discover new ones. Just maybe not those.

There are a lot of skills that don’t matter. My first confession, I actually don’t know my address.
