Apologies to those who know this already. If you're an aspiring author who submits a manuscript to what looks like a traditional publisher, and they write back saying that they adore your book but want you to pay £3k or so for an 'editing service'... Please don't sign with them.

The sitting MP got 22k votes in a joke election where a novelty candidate got nearly 10k, and has thus beaten the establishment or something, at a cost of some £300k to the taxpayer. Cool. Can we now get back to the parliamentary standards enquiry into that £5million bung?

A hill I am willing to die on - book publishing should be paying better than survivable salaries. Especially irksome given the hoops they expect young people to jump through to get their first jobs.
