I think my most recent relapse of cognitive symptoms is starting to get better, which means I can read direct from text (rather than relying on text to voice) a little bit again. I revisited a book on medieval market morality that I've been reading as research for HOTBLOOD and this passage stuck out

Among the litany of evil things AI has done, attempting to appropriate disability needs as a shield has to be quite up there. AI money could have made mass accessibility, could have covered everyone's healthcare, etc. The people who run AI love eugenics enough they can't stop talking about it.
Now here's a post

WILL COCAINE MAKE COLLEGE OBSOLETE?
WTF, NYer. "If we agree that college primarily serves a credentialling process that stamps select young people as worthy of work..." We do not. So much for the bastion of erudite journalism. This is sensationalism, damaging our most vital institution: education. www.newyorker.com/news/fault-l...
There Will Come Soft Rain is one of Bradbury’s best, I read it for the first time in 7th grade English and have thought about it at least once a month ever since. Highly recommend taking a few minutes to read it, treat yourself, and remember to stay out of the nursery
Today is the day the story There Will Come Soft Rain is set. An amazing and heartbreaking work of fiction for our modern age. Read it here:
it's crazy to me people still insist ai for research is reliable when we now have an Hbomberguy video's worth of evidence that its unreliability is tanking Hank Green's career
LOL LMAO. It's also... not a new idea to anyone who has been poor. You buy a beat up junker car, it will die sooner than the new car you cannot afford. In 20 years you've paid more for cars than a richer person has.
okay now he's gone too far
...much of what I say reiterates points other writers have made about the scourge of LLMs & AI writing. but I don't think any of us (writers or general public) are prepared for how bad actors are about to wield false accusations against writers they dislike: juliaserano.medium.com/on-em-dashes...
I hate this timeline & that I had to write this essay. I hate AI companies & LLMs & the randos who are now using "AI detectors" (also AI!) to smear authors they dislike: on Medium (friend link): juliaserano.medium.com/on-em-dashes... & Substack (no paywall): juliaserano.substack.com/p/on-em-dash...

Happy anniversary to the day a friend asked me get our Tarot read, and how the reader gave her a typical love life reading but when she did my reading all she said was “you need to get with either an Italian or Irish man” and when I asked for clarification she just said “ideally not from Jersey”
Heads up to my fellow ttrpg designers, heretofore undiscovered picklist by Bram Stoker just dropped
I am going through Bram Stoker’s earliest notes on DRACULA today - they include a list of the powers and features of the Count (then named “Wampyr” before Stoker stumbled on “Dracula”), many of which are never elucidated in the book…

Kept me up all night with his Xanax mania but for some reason I forgive him
Woke up with a symptom flare, audibly and visibly clutching my abdomen, and what does my cat do? Do you know how tall those Billy bookshelves from IKEA are? Do you know what it’s like to have 16lbs of mass descend directly onto your stomach from the top of one? Why not just stab me next time lol jfc
Yeah it's so heavily edited out that if you don't already know it's supposed to happen you can completely miss what's going on. Name of the Rose is truly one of the best examples of "this sex scene is actually necessary to understand wtf is going on".
Wait a darn minute, I just watched this for the first time, streaming on Amazon, while it took 3-4 sessions (kids, exhaustion) I WAS paying attention, I got confused because it was heavily implied Adso did some fuckin but I couldn't figure out when, if I'd missed it. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ON SCREEN?
Thank FUCK, and also thanks to 404 Media for breaking this story

Also, (1) When the receptionist was going over the itemized bill she pointed at one line and said "seems like he got a little anxious so he got some ketamine" and I was so loopy and out of it that I muttered "I've been there before"
Just a quick update to thank everyone who chipped in, reposted, and helped me out during yesterday's stress. Onion's home and doing okay! We caught a urinary blockage, which is serious for boy cats but treatable. After some fluids and meds he recovered, going back for a follow up in a month or two 💛

Had to take Onion to the emergency vet this morning. The docs say he's doing okay, fingers crossed it's nothing serious! I feel bad asking for help, but the vet bill is over $900. If you're able to help out at all I'd greatly appreciate it 🩷🧅 Paypal is jeeyon.shim@gmail.com, Venmo is Jeeyon-Shim
