One of British TV's first faces of pop music died on this day in 2003. Kent Walton is mostly remembered as ITV's Mr Wrestling but he was there right at the start of pop's TV history as host of Cool for Cats and later Discs-A-Gogo.

PERSON OF THE DAY. 24 August 2021. Charlie Watts, drummer with The Rolling Stones, died (aged 80). Watts only joined the group in January 1963. In 2016 he was ranked 12th on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time.

Today in 1963 The Rolling Stones appeared on the British TV show Ready Steady Go! for the first time. They would make 20 appearance on the programme over the years.

[1968] Top of the Pops – The Move perform "Fire Brigade". According to Wood, he wrote the song in a single overnight session after manager Tony Secunda told the band that he had a studio session lined up for the next morning and that they needed to record a single.

On this day in 1962, The Beatles were filmed for television for the first time (performing Some Other Guy at the Cavern Club). Intended for broadcast in the programme Know The North, the footage didn't surface until after The Beatles became famous (finally airing in late 1963).
