I cleared Star Fox Zero! Just in time to finish before the upcoming Switch 2 release. This one is a banger. It's an absolute crime how overlooked the Wii U is, because you get these unique experiences that can't be had on another console. 82/100, strongly recommended. #StarFox #WiiU

The cast of Star Fox in their victory walk.Ending shot of the Great Fox.My detailed review.

Graphics	5/5	Everything looks gorgeous. Very rarely something will pop in weirdly, but otherwise no complains.
Character Designs	5/5	Everybody’s models are updated and they look amazing.
Package & Manual	2/5	Box art looks nice, but the instruction manual is digital only. Booooo.
Sound Effects	5/5	The redone voice samples are fantastic. Same voice actors, but the line readings are much better and much expanded. Voices coming from the pad are nifty.
Music	7/10	Some of the great classic tracks are back. The rest is fine, but not outstanding.
Worldbuilding	3/5	We don’t learn a ton about the galaxy these characters live in, but there’s some interesting stuff.
Plot	5/5	Rogue scientist who killed your dad needs to be taken down, and you’re just the merc to do it. Great concept, I understand why they’ve repeated it 4 times.
Writing	7/10	Quite good for what it is. A bit corny in places, but it’s talking animals in space, what can you expect.
Controls	4/5	The tablet + screen system is divisive, but I love it. Really demands that the player learn a new way to interact with a game. I do wish boost, brake and barrel roll were on buttons instead of a stick.
Innovation	3/5	Even though it’s a remake of a remake, they still manage to innovate with the different controls and vehicles.
Difficulty	5/5	There are a couple of frustrating sections, but it’s mostly very fair. I haven’t tried for a full clear yet, but I imagine getting all of the medals would be very tough.
Game Length	5/5	Short and sweet, with extra challenges for those that want them.
Performance	4/5	Mostly solid, but there are a few stutters and slowdowns.
Level Design	8/10	A bit more linear than 64, but maybe I haven’t tried hard to find all the secrets. Some of the new levels are quite cool, particularly the air/ground dogfight on Venom.
Variety	4/5	Mostly rail shooting and dogfighting, but there are some puzzle elements.
Fun	10/10
Total	82/100

Last retro game clear of 2025, and it's a good'un. Super Mario Bros. USA (2 outside Japan) from the Super Famicom Collection. 77/100, deserves its classic status and worth a play today.

I fuggin did it, actually lined up something in the slot machineLast boss, WartMario is a sleepy peepyMy detailed review of Super Mario Bros. USA. High marks for design and gameplay, not much story to speak of.

Is there anyone out there who genuinely *does* know Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner *and* Blitzen, but cannot recall the most famous reindeer of all? It seems really unlikely.

The Final Fantasy IX exhibition in Ginza was fun. They got most of the bigwigs on the project to write a few paragraphs about it. Sakaguchi-san's message at the end was really lovely.

Short summary: Eiko is named after his daughter, which shows how close this game is to his heart. With the theme of returning to FF's roots, this game felt like a dream looking at it from the perspective of FF1. He's proud of making a game that leaves you with a warm feeling after defeating the final boss. He says many people still love IX, and hopes the series will continue to leave those kinds of impressions.

See, the trick is that "the GM exists for the players' amusement, whose job is to ruin their plans for fun" and "the GM rules like a king, and the players exist to be their playthings" is that these SEEM like opposite maladaptive approaches to play, but they both result in the GM doing all the work.

Another game cleared for Spooktober: Luigi's Mansion for 3DS! It's not a bad game, but it wasn't for me. Very, very easy, to the point of being kind of boring. This port feels like it's really hampered by the tough controls with the C-stick. #retrogaming #3DS

An image of Luigi sucking up a ghost with a vacuum cleaner.Dialogue from Luigi's Mansion for 3DS, featuring a french artist saying, "You filthy swine! You're blind to zee life I give my creations!"Ending screen from Luigi's Mansion. Apparently I did not get a very good ending. My detailed review of Luigi's Mansion. Medium points all around for graphics and sound, storytelling, and gameplay. 57/100, a mild recommendation for Luigi fans or kids who like ghosts.
