When climate deniers argue that atmospheric CO₂ was higher in the past, it's idiotic. Humans evolved to live in the current climate, and we built our society and infrastructure accordingly. The atmosphere didn't have oxygen billions of years ago, and we certainly don't want to return to that.

Earth's atmosphere hasn't had this much CO2 in millions of years

New data shows that CO2 levels have broken through 430 parts per million, an indication that human-caused global warming will continue to warp the environment.

The people who produce this Mauna Loa atmospheric CO₂ record have a lab in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, about 50 miles (80 km) from the observatory. By closing the lab, it'll be really difficult to maintain the CO₂ observations.

A line graph showing atmospheric CO2 levels at Mauna Loa Observatory from 1955 to 2025. The y-axis represents CO2 mole fraction in parts per million (ppm), ranging from 320 to 420 ppm, while the x-axis is years.

Trump’s Mass Layoffs at NOAA Cut Into the Bay Area Weather Service | KQED

Hundreds of workers at the climate research agency are being fired, including at least three Bay Area weather service employees, raising concerns about NOAA’s ability to serve the public.

I find the news of the recent mass layoffs at @noaa.gov to be deeply alarming. NOAA serves a critical role in advancing our understanding of oceans and climate, in managing our diverse marine resources, and in providing us with actionable science to help combat the climate crisis.

Nothing could have prepared me for the pain of losing this wonderful boy yesterday. He brought so much joy to my life and it feels like I’ve lost a limb. Goodbye my fuzzy friend. Thank you for being my loyal ever loving shadow. I hope we are together in every lifetime 💔
