On the surface it shines with splendor but the rot spreads underneath as the dreamless King Cronhe can only find solace in conquering and bloodshed, sacrificing young knights for his neverending pride, leaving the kingdom riddled with broken families and vultures that pick on the vulnerable. Few of the bright lights in the kingdom is Ewen—a beautiful, tenderhearted young scribe raised by the jovial Praetor Ludwig who cares for him and the many young orphans of Lir. By day, Ewen buries himself in the royal libraries and at night, he dreams of distant lands beyond Lir. Until he finds a book. And not just any book, a large tome full to the brim with fairy tales. Stories of a banished realm and the ballad of Raven King—a powerful fae being bound by rage, ruin, and dark desire. Ewen is compelled by the ballad and wanders into the Black Woods behind Lir when he stumbles upon a handsome man asleep beside a crystal clear lake. Drawn in by the mysterious beauty, Ewen reaches out to touch him when he’s surrounded by ravens and awakens safe in his bed, shaken…marked. Now new shadows circle the young scribe: Cray, the earnest squire whose tender feelings for Ewen could affect his judgment. Lord Rose, a wealthy and licentious noble desires nothing more than to cage him. And of course--the mysterious Raven King, whose frightening power does nothing to diminish his allure. As the ravens return to darken Lir’s skies bringing with them whispers of treachery, Ewen is caught in a dangerous web of intrigue and inhuman obsession.

Got my teensy backyard garden beds set up with pumpkins (hoping for just 2-3), gourds, watermelon, and purple tomatillos*. I’m excited to see what, if anything, comes up 🤣 *I have no recollection of buying the tomatillo seeds?? I think I picked them up by accident somehow…in the ground they go.
