I am looking for PhD students and postdocs to join my lab at the University of Pittsburgh in Fall 2027. Anyone excited about urban evolution, hummingbirds, & community engagement, please reach out! And/or find me at #AOS2026 this week! More info here: www.valentina-alaasam.com

New paper out with my fantastic colleagues of the @manydogsproject.bsky.social 🐶 We outline some of the ways that #CanineScience can increase diversity, both in the dog populations we study and the researchers leading the work #BigTeamScience #OpenScience 1/2

Would a dog in New York City respond in the same way as a dog in Kyoto? @jespinosa.bsky.social and colleagues address how studies on domestic dogs tend to focus on a Westernized subset.

In addition to a hiring PhD in ~October & hopefully some PhDs and postdocs ~February, if anyone would like to work with me as part of eg a Marie-Curie or something similar, please do get in touch. Topics include depression, classification, measurement, systems, time-series, & theory building.

I’ve officially resigned as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Systems Neuroscience. It used to be a reputable journal, but became a case study in how forced automation destroys academic integrity. 👇

I am really angry about all of the scientists who cozied up to Epstein even after it was known who he was. I am nearly as angry at how many people are justifying this as "they had to, it's how academia works" NO IT FUCKING WELL ISN'T

Andrew Perfors@perfors.net · 6mo ago

You don't have to dirty your soul to be a successful academic or a scientist. Have some fucking pride. Have some fucking principles. If you think you DO need to do that, all I can say is that I beg you not to go into academia or science.

I wrote an R package that creates standardized R project structures that are compliant with @mekline.bsky.social's psych-DS...ish. It also creates additional features for reproducibility and teaching like a readme, license, .gitignore and Quarto templates + can validate existing projects

Creating and validating standardized R project structures that are psych-DS compliant-ish

Making psychological code and data FAIR is hard, in part because different projects organize their code and data very differently. Sometimes this is for good reasons, such as due to the demands of a g...
