This is an excellent primer on the brutal history of post-13th amendment prison labor. As the need for workers to do backbreaking work continues to increase, this is only going to get worse. You better believe this is part of why the administration keeps boasting about new prison construction.

Taylor Farms is using slave convict labor in Arizona. I’ve written about this practice before. America LOVES slave labor. junoryleejournalism.com/2026/01/15/p...

If Stevens had the lead no matter how narrow, they’d be calling the it for her already. Sooner or later, Democratic leadership will have to contend with the fact that people who historically vote Democrat are actually their target demographic.

Fifty is generous, too. The whole idea is for these things to run themselves. There was an article recently about how some are using those Boston dynamics robot dogs rather than hiring security guards. The troubleshooting is mostly automated, with the exception of the part swapping listed below.

many of the data centers need as few as 10-50 permanent workers. they aren't software engineers making apps/services. it's $60k/yr people who can check if a hard drive failed and swap it out and monitor if a cooling fan fails even the one-time construction jobs aren't local, they bring in outsiders

TIL that one of the founders of Oracle had the legal middle name Nimrod. There’s no greater lesson there, but since the company is more less taking over the world it makes me feel a little better.

the real victims of the new york times' targeted campaign against trans people are cis people who like to play wordle

Excellent explainer of both how and why to oppose these in your town. Don’t believe the hype: everyone saying they’re not a big deal is deliberately ignoring that energy requirements will soon surpass that of multiple states combined, and that in places like Memphis it’s been horrendous for health.

Hoping the more local politicians take this heavy-handed authoritarian posture with the public that it galvanizes resistance.

Every major organization and NGO dedicated to trans rights in the UK from Stonewall to Mermaids to Amnesty have been systematically attacked and neutralized. All that's left are severely underfunded trans led orgs that are systematically ignored by the British press and government.

This feels so much more harmful than never having posted the threat briefing in the first place. That research was spot-on, which only highlights that you’re apologizing to unambiguous hate groups for finally defending us. Never donating another dime after this.

Question for Amnesty. Trans rights have regressed in the UK. That’s undeniable. The organisations you are apologising to have celebrated these rights being eroded. Are you really that weak that you can’t in good faith defend calling them anti-rights? Because they very clearly fucking are.

“The FBI has signaled that its new effort to brand political opponents of the president as terrorists has only just begun, and that soon the power of large language models will be brought to bear on the effort to flag and tag political dissidents en masse.”

Minority report: FBI seeks AI for political watch list

Documents show the FBI seeking AI tools to flag Americans before they act, as the terror watchlist's focus moves toward domestic dissent.

The way Fauci is being treated right now is such a disgrace. I keep thinking of the video of him meeting with ACT UP organizers and how unbelievably rare this was for someone in either government or medicine. ACT UP deserves the credit but his response is part of why things changed.

North Carolina state rep Erin Paré posted some truly vile stuff in her official capacity on multiple platforms targeting a trans teacher yesterday, referencing alleged “concerns raised” to her office, saying she will work to ban all trans teachers. This greatly undersells how bad it actually is.
