I'm reviewing the sketchy science claims supplement companies make for an upcoming article. These websites are full of bonkers claims (oh, your pill slows aging? oh, muscle growth without exercise?) but also SO MANY ZOOMED IN MOUTH PHOTOS. I should get hazard pay, it's so gross

A picture of what appears to be a white guy shoving pills into his mouth, why do they show this, it's disgusting

Today, CSPI’s Litigation Department and co-counsel at the @aclu.org, @protectdemocracy.org, and others filed a class action lawsuit challenging the National Institutes of Health’s policy of blocking grants in order to censor views it disagrees with. We're unafraid to take this admin to court again.

Any accounting of this day that doesn't include the resulting violence and discrimination experienced by Arab Americans (and the global effects of the war on terror) is straight up propaganda for a white supremacist vision of the United States.

But that feeling of a shared bond among all Americans in the early weeks after the attack is something I’m so glad I got to experience. Because it’s the thing that I think we’re missing the most today.

Professors across the South: We still need your voice. There’s still time to complete the survey and share your experiences in higher education. Please participate—and encourage your faculty colleagues to do the same. Every response helps. Make your voice heard. #HigherEd #AcademicFreedom

And as I've been tracking, it's been eight months since Trump admitted a single refugee into the United States (Biden admitted 100,060 in 2024; white people from South Africa don't count.) There is now no longer a legal path for non-white people to become a U.S. permanent resident or citizen.

BREAKING: in July 2026, *every single one* of the 2,528 refugees admitted in the U.S. were white South Africans. In FY 2026, the U.S. has admitted a total of 10,255 white South Africans, three Afghans (back in November), and nobody else. For reference, the U.S. admitted 100,060 refugees in 2024.

Really loved the latest Vibe Check pod on the death of Jason Arday and the dangers of being isolated in elite spaces. Thank you, @theferocity.bsky.social! Also if folks haven't seen the website Arday's former students put together, please give it a read. leilacancode.github.io/everythinggo...

This is excellently done and I suggest all my colleagues in public health give it a read. .... I read this and Emily Wilson's response to Nolan's Odyssey last night and had a dream that combined them, I do not suggest this specific thing to my colleagues in public health. Or anyone else.

I didn’t love Craig Spencer’s ‘embrace MAHA’ column in The Atlantic. Instead of canceling my friend, I called him. Then I wrote this line-by-line rebuttal to his piece. It's live, so please check it out and let me know what you think... open.substack.com/pub/insideme...

NY-10 is, according to the Jewish Electorate Institute, the second most Jewish Congressional district in the US. (www.jewishelectorateinstitute.org/p6611) It voted overwhelmingly for a candidate who says Israel is committing genocide. That should challenge assumptions about what American Jews want.

“I will be one of the Jewish members of Congress most willing to stand up for Palestinian human rights. And I will stand firmly against bigotry aimed at Jews. Those are not two different jobs. They are the same job,” Brad Lander said.

for the billionth time, everyone who worked for USAID knew it was a tool of soft power, but accepted it because the tradeoff is you get to materially improve people’s lives that otherwise would die. hoarding the fruits of imperialism for the core and letting the world starve is not better.

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com · 4mo ago

Whenever I hear someone claiming that USAID was evil from a leftist perspective, I hear someone saying “yes, millions ARE dying because Musk and Trump killed USAID, but at least they’ll die free of American imperialism.” Notably it is never the people saying this who are dying.

This entire thread is wild & demonstrates what teachers have been screaming about: AI dependence not only completely discredits the user, it makes the user feel worthless. It's a psychologically manipulative tool that causes one to doubt their actual knowledge & then creates a shame loop.

I'm attending a digital humanities event in Montreal. There was a keynote on AI and something about the talk made me wonder if it had been written by Claude. I said as much in the Q&A. As I posed the question, the speaker shifted, looking slightly uncomfortable. What he said next shocked the room +

“I think one of the best investments you can make as a new graduate is understanding that the most adult thing you can do is ask questions. Do not be afraid to ask how things work. The wisest investment you can make is curiously and openness to knowledge from other people.”
