Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the point of a VCS to maintain the history of a project? Why is re-writing history or playing around with the order of things OK in git and jj? The history of a project should be immutable shouldn’t it? #git #vcs #needAlife

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

Work laptop runs windows 11, Minimal applications installed since we work on Linux machines. Yet somehow, of the 256GB the laptop came with, I have 70GB left… In contrast, my personal laptop has fedora installed. Started with 512gb and I have all the stuff installed on it. >450GB left. #linux

Does anyone else find new cars with everything buried in a touchscreen a real pain? Adjusting the air con used to be a quick press, done, eyes back on the road. Now you’re navigating menus while doing 70. Bring the buttons back. #Cars #Design #UX

i wish there was native software nowadays instead of everything in the browser. i know it's because the browser is a really good "virtual machine" like how the jvm was back in the day (still exists but a lot more things are js instead of java) but god i want to not use 400mb for basic programs

People will always take the path of least resistance, that’s just human nature isn’t it. With AI that means we lose something, even if there is a lot to be gained. The deep skills, the patience to learn properly. That stuff quietly disappears, not overnight, just gradually. #AI #Tech #HumanNature

Bought a Surface Book in 2016, leaving Apple. Huge mistake, overheating, awful battery, never slept properly. Moved to an M2 Air, spectacular. Still use it. Should have just gone ThinkPad with Linux from the start though, running an X1 Carbon with Fedora now and it’s a dream.
