Reading Project Hail Mary. The prose is...naive at times, but the concept is interesting and Rocky and Grace have great chemistry. Also, Weir handles the science very well -- I don't feel lost when he gets technical. We have the film from the library. I need to finish the book so we can watch it!

The whole thread, but this stood out. Not everything has to be about sex, obviously, but also, making sex shameful is harmful and repressive. Sex-shaming has been used to control women, justify violence against brown people, encouraged victims of sexual violence to stay silent. Ugh.

there's a VERY disturbing cultural shift atm toward sex negativity and demands for "purity" around sex, a lot of guilt and shame, and it's largely about cultural control - when you control and punish open sexual desire or discussion, you also control discussions of consent and autonomy

The Moon Landing, but barely. I have a faint memory of slow figures on a black and white TV set. The biggest one where I was totally THERE for it was probably the eruption of Mount St. Helens.

So, I was never much into Dolly Parton, musically. I could recognize the talent, but it just wasn't my thing, you know? I did know she was an awesome human being, but I didn't really follow her comings and goings. This morning, though, I am near tears, seeing the outflow of love and grief.

every billionaire & tech mogul, they all want to be adored & celebrated without doing the things Dolly did with a fraction of the power & money. What she had, she gave away. I'm sure she was comfortable (& that's good!). But she just relentlessly helped. It's not that difficult. Love. Care. Help. 💚🌸

Remember that if you got the Moderna Covid vaccine, you have Dolly Parton to thank, she gave the largest individual contribution toward their research to make it possible.
