I watched so many young men with AIDS die back then, it haunts me to this day. I did my internal medicine residency in DC in mid 90s, I would admit 10-12 AIDS patients every 3rd or 4th night when I was on call. and At least 1, sometimes 2 or 3 would die every day. I would pronounce them.
Yes, I also remember, before this, when Republicans refused to help scientists and doctors address the AIDS crisis because Ronald Reagan was afraid that if he was compassionate to gay men bigots like Jerry Falwell wouldn't help him get re-elected.
