Some days are filled with bad news and then you get an email that the biggest gripe with your niche laptop is going to be fixed and you become tempted (sorry @markyarm.bsky.social and all others I've pitched to over the years) to pitch a very niche PC hardware story on why this makes you happy.

Canadian journalists, please help me out to spread the following message: If you are a freelancer with CBC (or an employee, but this is aimed at freelancers) who needs support given the current wildfires in Canada, please get in touch. John@Jloeppky.com.

Don't miss this Thursday's DJA Community Meeting! ID: A flyer inviting people to a July 2026 Community Support Zoom Meeting. The design features a pale yellow background with the DJA logo in the upper left and a pink banner in the upper right that reads “Thursday!” in large white letters.

I was too busy getting stung by a swarm of wild bees this morning to boost this but uh I'm still 38 subscribers short of my goal. Progress has been slow! Please repost to help me out. The next edition of my newsletter drops Wednesday and will be subscriber-only, so it's a great time to join!

📣 I'm running a subscriber drive for the rest of this month. I want to sign up 40 more annual subscribers—enough to hire a freelance fact-checker to work on all of my original reporting. I'm offering half off annual subscriptions to help make this happen; that's $40 for the year. Will you join me?

Resharing so people read @nikostratis.com but also to say, I worked in some of the evacuation centres in the late 2010's. It's an experience that I will never forget and both lots of media coverage and social media discourse on this is exhausting to read/watch.

Seeing a lot of jokes and whatever about the fires, but these fires are devastating. Homes and lives and communities are gone, and will continue to dissapear as the problem gets worse. Homes burn as our leaders announce pipelines while flipping pancakes at a fake rodeo.

For a possible journalism project. Looking for topics that may seem, at first glance, like they aren't connected to disability or disability culture. Please comment or DM any that you would like to see me cover!

Following up on this with reporting I helped with because my dear friend won't mind. If you want to read more about how disaster recovery doesn't meet the needs of disabled people, check out this article from @discojourno.bsky.social discojourno.com/national/dis...

I was told by a worker at @hi-advocacy.bsky.social today that a hospital where disabled people specifically received treatment was decimated in the earthquake, leaving many dead. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

After months of 'yeah, I need to do this,' I have finally finished my will/gotten it witnessed, so let this be your prompt to do that if you haven't done it already. Dying intestate is a real pain in other people's asses & you don't want a situation where shitty relatives get your shit by default.

If anyone is looking for an experienced journalist (me) to teach at their university or college, please reach out. Finally feeling solid enough in my career to believe I can teach this as an instructor.

Reminder that I'm a freelance reporter, contributor @truthout.org, and I run a newsletter covering politics and organizing. Please reach out with tips re: attacks on public education, divestment campaigns, local regulation of data centers, and all things disability. Contact in bio. RTs appreciated.

Is there a good article on how frustrating it is to try to learn web design when all of these platforms who used to be focused on learning boil down to "just use AI" whenever I search anything?

Semi-regular reminder (especially with Pride season looming!) that I LOVE doing podcast/TV/radio/live event hosting, panels, and commentary! I will moderate your panel! Or come on your show and talk about gay stuff! Or also not gay stuff—I have range! Contact info, as always, in my bio ✨🌈

In case you missed it, a big project I worked on came out last week. I'd love to have you read it (and yes, Canadians, there's a lot of crossover even if the package is focused on the rural US)

A big project that I edited (my package editing debut) just launched today. Please give it a read and, if you're so inclined, support our work. Really proud of this. Thank you, also, to @grist.org for the support. discojourno.com/about-dja/dj...
