UW immunologist studying immune responses to helminths and allergens. He/his.

In light of policies to defund biomedical research, and with judicial hearings happening today, we hope to highlight the many ways biomedical research improves people's lives, and to convey how damaging the proposed cuts would be... not just for us researchers, but for everyone.

From a recent UW email: "The [indirect] rates are based on federally audited cost studies. The audits show, time and again, that the total cost to the university is actually higher than the negotiated rate — the university is already subsidizing federal grants and contracts on the admin side."

My weekend with immunologists devising new strategies to treat cancer, allergy, Alzheimer’s, autoimmunity and infection. The WH has just paused peer-reviewed NIH funding that pays for these studies. If you care about human life, write your representatives. Demand that NIH funding is restored asap.

>150 new followers in the last few days! Would be a small consolation if this election reconstitutes the Sci Twitter community here on bsky. We're going to need to stick together these next four years. I'm afraid there are unprecedented attacks on science and objective truth on the horizon.

Looking forward to #2023NDiSTEM in Portland! Visit us at University of Washington booths 542 (Department of Microbiology and Department of Immunology) and 701 (Molecular and Cellular Biology Graduate Program) to learn more about our programs and departments.
