I think — and I will write about this somewhere soon if I can — that internet discussion has fostered an overwhelming preference for “source material” as a standard, in a way that I think is detrimental to art. It’s better, I believe, to consider adaptations as part of one’s body of work.

Yeah spider-man’s strength is in licensing, he’s always been more valuable than the entire MCU and was only eclipsed by Batman In 2016 — haven’t checked the most recent numbers but I think he’s back on top again. He’s basically a Disney princess, an IP perpetual motion machine

Spider-Man movies were breaking box office records well before the MCU existed. They are a cinema phenomenon onto themselves, because Spider-Man is a singularly resonant and relatable character.
