MLA for Coquitlam Burke Mountain & Minister of Children and Family Development

Recently, I had the opportunity to tour, Katherine’s Place, a housing development run by A Way Home Kamloops, providing supportive housing for people age 19 to 26, particularly those aging out of care.

Thank you Katherine Dennis for the tour of the LURE exhibition at the Art Gallery at Evergreen Cultural Centre. It was a remarkable exhibit and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique experience this summer. Admission is by donation and the gallery is located at 1205 Pinetree Way.

Thank you to those who came out yesterday for ice cream at Town Centre Park! It was great to chat with you about your school year and plans for the summer. I love this tradition of connecting with kids and families in the neighbourhood on the last day of school. Can’t wait until next year!

This week our government released the Child and Youth Well-Being Action Plan and Outcomes Framework. I spoke at the announcement about how children and families do not experience one ministry at a time and how this new approach will help us improve how we deliver services in a coordinated fashion.

The #BCLeg Finance Committee invites British Columbians to submit their ideas and priorities for BC’s next budget. Visit la-bc.ca/consultations to find out more, and submit your written submission by Friday, June 19 at 2:00 pm.

BC habitats impacted by wildfires will soon be reforested with new seedlings, shrubs, herbs and other native plants. Planting 125 million more trees helps support species at risk, builds resilience to climate change, and supports communities throughout the province.

Reforestation projects support wildfire recovery and habitat restoration

This evening I'll be celebrating BC Child and Youth In Care Week at the Kick-Off celebration event hosted by the Federation of BC Youth in Care Networks. It's a time to acknowledge and celebrate the unique strengths of our amazing young people in and from care.

Last week, I had the privilege of visiting the BC Family Hearing Resource Society and I left feeling genuinely moved. They wrap families in support from the very beginning: from early intervention and ASL instruction, to kindergarten transition programs, childcare, and peer-to-peer mentoring.

What a day! 🌸 Loved joining Tri-City Chinese Community Society for their Annual Spring Festival! I always love the fashion, performances and shopping! Congratulations to the TCCS team on 15 incredible years of community leadership. Happy Spring, Coquitlam-Burke Mountain! 🌿
